Every now and then, netizens take to social media platforms like X to share their experiences with food delivery apps like Zomato. Now, it would be wrong to say the feedbacks are always positive. This time, a customer explained why he would always prefer Swiggy over Zomato, pointing out that the same food items with identical restaurant discounts still resulted in different bills on both apps. By highlighting the price difference, he publicly called out Zomato, prompting a response from Zomato Care as well.
Customer calls out Zomato, backs Swiggy, ‘same item, same restaurant discount, different bills’
Food delivery pricing has once again come under the scanner after a customer named Tanmay took to X to vent his frustration over what he called “unfair billing” on Zomato. Sharing a detailed post, Tanmay explained why he would always prefer Swiggy over Zomato, despite ordering the exact same item from the same restaurant with identical discounts applied.

In his post, he wrote,
“Same item, same discount by the restaurant, different bills.”
By writing so, he questioned the pricing transparency on food delivery platforms. His disappointment was strong enough for him to even use the hashtag #SayNoToZomato, calling out what he felt was an unfair difference in final payable amounts.
In the screenshots shared, Tanmay showed the bill for Dal Makhni with Garlic Naan ordered from the same restaurant on both apps. On Swiggy, the item priced at Rs 289 came down to a final bill of Rs 167, after a Rs 144.50 discount, a Rs 14.99 platform fee, free delivery under Swiggy One, and taxes of Rs 7.23. In contrast, the Zomato bill amounted to Rs 194.60, despite the item price being the same and a restaurant coupon of Rs 120 being applied.
The difference of nearly Rs 28 for the same order did not sit well with the customer. Highlighting a broader concern, Tanmay also noted in his post,
“I recently observed that all the order prices I used to place in 2025 are now significantly costlier on Zomato. Is this for real?”
His observation resonated with several users who have long questioned rising platform fees and added charges. Furthermore, the public call-out soon prompted a response from Zomato Care, which reached out to Tanmay on social media to address the issue.

Zomato breaks silence on price difference, customer hits back
Responding to Tanmay’s viral post, Zomato Care stepped in to clarify the price difference highlighted in the screenshots. In its reply, the platform stated,
“Please note that the item value is the same on both platforms. The difference in the total bill is due to the discount applied on item value which may vary from platform to platform along with the taxes, which are calculated on the subtotal value post restaurant discount.”
Zomato added that such variations are system-driven and invited the customer to reach out via direct message for further assistance.

However, the explanation did not convince Tanmay. Replying firmly, he made it clear that he was not seeking validation from the platform. He asserted that his opinion was based on repeated personal experiences, saying he had “seen, observed, and borne the higher price implications multiple times” while ordering through Zomato. According to him, this wasn’t a one-off incident but a recurring pattern.

Doubling down on his stance, Tanmay concluded that his post was meant to highlight what many users have already been discussing online. He claimed that his screenshots only reinforced ongoing conversations around price parity and alleged false charging.
I am not asking for your validation, I have seen, observed and borne the higher price implications multiple times. I am showing that it’s true what people are saying on the internet regarding price parity and false charging!!
