Another food mix-up incident has surfaced after a customer claimed they received the wrong burgers despite placing a correct order through Zomato. The recurring nature of such errors has once again put online delivery platforms and partner restaurants under public scrutiny, raising concerns about quality checks and order accuracy. The customer took to X (formerly Twitter) to highlight the issue, prompting Zomato to respond to the complaint.
Burger King–Zomato order mix-up sparks outrage over religious sentiments
On 1st February, an X (formerly Twitter) user named Uday Mohta raised a serious complaint against Burger King and Zomato, alleging a major mix-up in his food order that deeply hurt his religious sentiments. What began as a simple first-time order from Burger King soon turned into a distressing experience, drawing public attention to recurring issues with food delivery accuracy.

According to his post, Uday Mohta had placed an order for a Veg Crispy Veg Burger Peri Peri Meal from Burger King in Kandivali West, Mumbai, through Zomato. However, instead of receiving a vegetarian meal, he claimed that chicken items were delivered. Calling the incident insulting and offensive, he expressed emotional distress over having to receive and pay for food that went against his personal religious beliefs.
In his viral tweet, he wrote:
“First time in my life I ordered from Burger King. They delivered Chicken instead of my Veg order. Felt so insulted and offended on receiving and paying for same. I want both of you compensate me for dishonouring my personal religious sentiments. Call me.”
To support his claims, he attached screenshots of the Zomato order details, showing the veg meal he had ordered, along with the bill summary and payment record. He also shared a photo of the delivery receipt, which appeared to list chicken items — seemingly contradicting the original vegetarian order and strengthening his allegation.

In a follow up comment the customer further wrote,
“I will take this matter to highest forum possible. I trusted you with my food and you guys have made a mockery of my beliefs.”

Zomato issues standard response after Burger King veg–non-veg mix-up
After Uday Mohta flagged the Burger King order mix-up on X, Zomato responded with a formal customer-care reply, acknowledging the seriousness of the issue. The platform wrote,

“Hi Uday, this is truly shocking for us as we take your dietary preferences very seriously. We’ll take this up with the restaurant partner, and get back to you.”
The message emphasized concern for the customer’s food preferences and assured that the matter would be escalated to the restaurant partner.

Zomato’s reply followed a familiar template seen in customer grievance cases, focusing on empathy and reassurance while promising further action. Although the response recognized the sensitivity of dietary choices—especially in the context of religious beliefs—it did not immediately outline specific corrective measures, refunds, or compensation, instead stating that an update would be shared after reviewing the matter.
As similar complaints continue to surface online, this episode has reignited concerns about accountability, customer trust, and the importance of respecting religious and personal food choices.
