A horrific incident in Gurugram raised concerns over the safety of passengers availing cab service. The shocking incident took place on November 29 when a woman and her son were attacked by their cab driver. The Gurugram woman and her child were inside a BluSmart cab.
A driver associated with cab service provider BluSmart robbed the woman at gunpoint
The alleged cab driver, identified as Sonu Singh, picked up the woman and her son from Gurugram’s Airia Mall, and their drop destination was Microtek Greenburg in Sector 86.

However, when the driver reached Sector 83, he allegedly pulled out a gun and forced her to make a transaction of Rs 55,000 from her mobile phone. He also robbed some of her belongings and fled the scene. After the woman’s complaint, police registered a case against the driver and arrested him on December 1.
The app-based cab aggregator, BluSmart issued a statement apologizing to the woman and promised enhancement of safety protocol for their riders
The cab company issued a statement apologizing to the woman assuring quick action. Terming the incident as disturbing, BluSmart, said that they are taking “immediate steps” to further strengthen their safety protocols.
BluSmart issued a statement, expressing their concern over the incident and expressing they were “deeply saddened” by what had happened.

“We are taking immediate steps to further strengthen our safety protocols, including additional training for our driver-partners and enhanced technology solutions. We apologize to the affected family and are committed to providing them with all necessary support. We will continue to work tirelessly to rebuild trust and ensure that every BluSmart ride is a safe and comfortable experience”
The accused driver, Sonu Singh, was presented before a local Gurugram court, which granted the police one day of custody for further investigation.
Safety measures proposed by the company after the disturbing incident
The app-based cab aggregator, BluSmart highlighted its use of facial recognition technology to verify driver identities and emphasized the availability of a dedicated safety helpline for riders.
In its statement, BluSmart also added that the detailed documentation on the accused driver and the “swift actions of the team” played an important role in assisting the police, enabling them to bring the accused to justice within 24 hours.
