R Madhavan Praises Mission Raniganj

Alongside Thank You For Coming, Mission Raniganj, starring Akshay Kumar and Parineeti Chopra, made its theatrical début on October 6. Unfortunately, neither movie had much success at the box office, with viewers still reportedly favoring “Jawan’s” appeal.

The disaster thriller Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai and made by Pooja Entertainment. This Vipul K. Rawal-written story is based on the devastating collapse of the West Bengal coalfields at Raniganj in 1989. Jaswant Singh Gill, a diligent mining engineer from IIT Dhanbad, is the protagonist of the narrative. The story centers on his gallant attempts to rescue 65 trapped workers from the Raniganj coalfields.

However, despite having such a good story and star cast, the movie did not do well at the box office and failed to attract a large audience. Nevertheless, despite the film’s lackluster performance at the box office, Mission Raniganj received a plethora of glowing reviews. Not only fans but also many renowned personalities showered praise on the film. Among them is actor R Madhavan. He praises Mission Ranganj on social media so much that his praise attracted such attention that even Akshay was compelled to give him a heart-touching reply.

Akshay Kumar opens up about the lackluster performance of Mission Raniganj at the box office.

After being released in theaters on October 6, Mission Raniganj disappointed critics and audiences with an underwhelming performance. Despite the film’s lackluster box office performance, Akshay Kumar, who plays the protagonist, volunteered to take responsibility for it. In an interview with Times Now Navbharat, Kumar recognized the movie’s poor box office results, saying,

“It is not a commercial film. It has not earned as much as it should have earned. But, I have come here knowing that the film has not done well, to own the film- and I have done some 150 films by now-and say that this is one of my best films.”

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh echoed the sentiment regarding the subpar performance of the movie. He remarked that the weekend business of Mission Raniganj did not align with its merits and critical acclaim. Adarsh reported lackluster figures, with the film collecting ₹12.60 crore in its first weekend, a performance deemed ‘below the mark’ at the box office.

On the work front, Akshay Kumar is currently busy working on multiple projects. He is set to appear as Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in a Marathi movie named Vedat Marathe Veer Daudle Saat. Apart from this, he will also soon appear in the untitled remake of Soorarai Pottru. Additionally, he is working on other projects, including Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, Sky Force, Shankara, and Singham Again.
