Did you know that Adnan Sami was born as Adnan Sami Khan to a Pakistani Air Force veteran, Arshad Sami Khan who was also a diplomat of Pashtun origin, and Naureen, who originally belonged to the Indian Union territory of Jammu and Kashmir? Adnan had Pakistani citizenship which he gave up in 2016 and became an Indian citizen.

The reason he cited for this step was that the Pakistan government allegedly ‘mistreated’ him and he stated in a note on Twitter that Pakistan has ‘major issues with the establishment’ and he has no issues with the people of Pakistan. The note also read,

“Many people ask me why I have such contempt towards Pakistan. The hard truth is that I have absolutely no contempt towards the people of Pakistan who have been good to me. I love everyone who loves me- period. However, I have major issues with the establishment. Those who truly know me will also know what that establishment did to me for many years which ultimately became one of the big reasons for me to leave Pakistan”

Adnan Sami sang a number of Urdu songs for the Pakistani film Sargam in 1995, which also had the legendary Indian singer Asha Bhonsle as a playback singer. The songs of the film were a huge box-office success.
