adipurush dialogues changed

Adipurush, one of the most highly anticipated films of this year, finally premiered on June 16, 2023. The film is based on the Hindu epic Ramayana and was directed by Om Raut. It also features a stellar cast including Prabhas as Ram, Kriti Sanon as Sita, Saif Ali Khan as Ravana, and Sunny Singh as Lakshman, the movie was produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Om Raut, and Prasad Sutar. Everything seems so perfect about the movie from the outside.

However, despite all this, Adipurush has failed to live up to the monumental expectations surrounding it. Since its release, disappointing reviews have flooded Twitter and other social media platforms, generating a wave of dissatisfaction among viewers.

Needless to say, despite having a massive budget of Rs. 500 crores, the spectators struggled to connect with the movie. However, the disappointment didn’t end there. Consequently, many people started boycotting Adipurush, because of their various concerns and grievances. The reasons driving this growing demand for a boycott vary, but many viewers have criticized the pedestrian dialogues.

While many sound generic, some caused controversy among the film’s primary fanbase. These lines were judged to be subpar and to have violated the sacredness of the original text.

However, Manoj Muntashir, the film’s lyricist and writer, initially defended his written dialogues. He revealed in interviews that he had grown up hearing slang renditions of the Ramayana, which had affected the way he approached the lines. He also stated that Adipurush was not an adaptation of the Ramayana but rather “inspired” by it.

Finally, after hearing feedback from the audience, he declared that the offensive lines will be changed. And now, it seems that makers have changed some objectionable lines.

Days after its release, the modified version of Adipurush, featuring modified dialogues, has started screening in theaters. The revisions were authorized on June 19 by the Central Board of Film Certification, which had previously given the movie a U certificate. The movie, which received its original certification on June 12, has undergone re-certification.

The original lines and their updated counterparts are listed below:

1. Old version:

Tu andar kaise ghusa… tu jaanta bhi hai kaun hoon main.

New version:

Tum andar kaise ghuse… tum jaante bhi ho kaun hoon main.

2. Old version:

Kapda tere baap ka… toh jalegi bhi tere baap ki.

New version:

Kapda teri Lanka ka… toh jalegi bhi teri Lanka.

3. Old version:

Jo hamari behno… unki Lanka laga denge.

New version:

Jo hamari behno… unki Lanka mein aag laga denge.

4. Old version:

Mere ek sapole ne tumhare iss sheshnaag ko lamba kar diya… bhara pada hai.

New version:

Mere ek sapole ne tumhare iss sheshnaag ko samapt kar diya… bhara pada hai.

What does Manoj Muntashir have to say about these changes?

Manoj Muntashir stated earlier this week that the studio’s choice to alter these lines is “brave,” and they did it despite being aware of the “logistical nightmare” it would create.

Om Raut, who directed Adipurush, stated in an interview that he cares more about audience reaction than critics’ opinions.

However, the film seems to be struggling to find an audience as it has had historically large opening weekend numbers before seeing steep box office declines. The movie has made a total of Rs 395 crore globally in five days.
