Actress Sagarika Ghatge is popularly known for her role in Chak De! India. She has been married to well-known former cricketer Zaheer Khan since November 2017. She recently shared insights about her interfaith marriage with the former Indian cricketer, who played in all formats for the Indian cricket team from 2000 to 2014. When they publicly revealed the news about their relationship in 2016, everyone started discussing the different religious backgrounds of Zaheer and Sagarika.

The couple first met at a friend’s party and eventually fell in love. However, their love story made headlines because they follow different religious faiths. Despite the questions concerning their faith, they never addressed the issue. In a recent interview, Sagarika opened up about following distant faith and her family’s reaction to the same.

Speaking on Hauterrfly’s The Male Feminist, she disclosed that though there were external discussions surrounding the topic of them having different religious backgrounds, her family never made it an issue.

Sagarika highlighted that what truly mattered to her was finding a partner who aligned with her values.
“It was people around us who were making that conversation. My parents were very progressive people, and of course, things were discussed. But for me, it was important to find the right human being with whom I could share my life.”
The Chak De! India actress said that she and Zaheer have made sure to value each other’s individuality in their relationship. They believe that it has played an important role in reinforcing their bond with time. Sagarika also revealed that Zaheer and her parents share a close and fun bond and it was never a problem. “Once Zaheer met my dad, it was the most beautiful relationship. Even with my mother, I think she loves him more than she loves me!”
Sagarika Ghatge shared her husband, Zaheer Khan’s first meeting with her father
Sagarika Ghatge and Zaheer Khan made their relationship public after a while. The media noticed them together when they attended the wedding of Zaheer Khan’s former teammate, Yuvraj Singh in 2016. Sagarika shared that before she would be seen with Zaheer at the wedding, she knew she had to tell her father about their relationship. Recalling her apprehension, the actress mentioned,
“I was attending Yuvraj Singh’s wedding and knew it would come out. So before that, I had to tell my dad. I thought the meeting would last 10 minutes, but it went on for more than an hour.”
After learning about the two of them, Sagarika’s father immediately decided to contact Zaheer’s former coach, Anshuman Gaikwad, to learn more about him who also happened to be her uncle. Her uncle texted Zaheer to enquire about his bond with Sagarika. However, reportedly, the former cricketer was uncertain how to respond to the text. Zaheer decided to show the text to Sagarika and decided not to reply. She also supported him, and it turned into a hilarious situation.
