For decades, whenever one spoke of Bihar politics, the name Lalu Prasad Yadav, and by extension his family, naturally dominated the conversation. The Rashtriya Janata Dal chief and former Chief Minister has long kept his family at the heart of the state’s political landscape. However, after the RJD’s recent debacle in the Bihar Assembly election, visible cracks within the clan have begun to emerge. The situation escalated when Lalu and Rabri Devi’s daughter, Rohini Acharya, publicly announced her exit from the party, sparking intense curiosity around the Yadav family feud. For the unversed, the couple are parents to nine children – seven daughters and two sons. Here’s a look at their family tree.

From arranged marriage to political dynasty, the rise of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi

In 1973, Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi were joined in an arranged marriage that raised more than a few eyebrows – her uncle initially resisted because Lalu came from a very modest background. But Rabri’s father saw something else: Lalu’s sharp intellect, hunger for change, and raw political energy. Their union proved powerful – the couple went on to have nine children.

Over time, Lalu built the Rashtriya Janata Dal and Rabri became Bihar’s Chief Minister, even as she was relatively uneducated and thrust into power amid scandal.

Their children grew up to define their own identities – from MP to state leaders – turning the Yadav clan into one of Bihar’s most formidable political dynasties. But now, with new family fault lines exposed, their legacy is being tested all over again.

Have a look at the list of nine children of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi:

She played a key role in assisting her mother Rabri Devi during Lalu’s imprisonment in 1998. Married to computer engineer Shailesh Kumar, she is a mother to three children – Durga, Gauri, and Adhiraj – and continues to uphold the family’s political legacy.
