We cannot deny the fact that we, millennials or the people who get influenced by our dating skills are very much into complicated stuff named, “casual relationship.” And that actually means you’re in a relationship but you’re not in a relationship. See? That doesn’t make sense just like the entire dating thing of this age doesn’t either.

But there are stories that divert the entire point of view of dating to something we all want, a person to rely on. At the end of the day, we all want to come back home to the person we love, rant out about our day, or excitedly talk about the promotion we got. In the end, we’re all walking each other home.

But that’s not the case for everyone. Soldiers, the brave people who voluntarily stood forward took the sake of their lives just so that we can be at peace. Their families don’t live in peace. They live in a constant state of terror, tension and become paranoid in general all the time. The person they love is near the border fighting off against the enemies just so that they can be safe at home. While the very fortunate families get to see their hero in one piece, breathing and alive. A lot of the families don’t, they get to see their loved ones wrapped around the tricolor flag.

This story is from the post by Humans of Bombay where they beautifully brought into the story of a widowed woman, the wife of Major Padmapani who was martyred during Kargil war

Major Padmapani wife happily shared her story of how her love story is an indifferent one from others.

Padmapani Acharya met Major Padmapani in 1995 when she was traveling on a train with her great aunt.

Just like a filmy hero would do, he left his book which had his number. Later when she called him up, his mother picked up the call and said to her, “Major is gushing about you!”

That was pretty much the deal door. Their families met afterward and the knot of love and passion was tied between the two.

Just because they spoke different languages, she literally learned Hindi for Major. And Major always made sure that his sisters bought nail polish for his wife, the woman he was smitten for. He often surprised her by coming home uninformed and early. What’s better than surprising the one you love anyway?

After there years if marriage, she got pregnant and her husband was called for the Kargil war. Though times were tough he always sounded positive about getting back home, to hold her and his baby. Major wrote letters from Kargil,

But unfortunately, he didn’t make it home. Her in-laws called her to tell her he didn’t make it through.

She was sad, obviously, but so was she proud of her husband and the reason he died. He died for his country, he died saving thousands of lives.

After weeks of despair and emptiness, she pulled through like the warrior her husband was. There months later she gave birth to a beautiful and baby girl, who looked exactly like her husband.

Though she was given an option to get married again and start another life, she didn’t choose that. She ran her own business, supported herself and many other women, emotionally and materialistic as well. Now she’s happy and proud of her husband.

And even though he’s not around anymore, she still cooks his favorite food idli, sambar and dosa during occasions.

“It’s been over 25 years and I still have moments where I have to convince myself that he’s not coming home from the station.”
