The refrigerator is one of the greatest inventions of all time. In this capitalist world majority of people cook food and store it in refrigerators. In order to prepare those foods people buy food items and keep them in refrigerators as well. Why? So that the food does not get spoiled. It completely makes sense because we all crave fresh and tasty food.
However, we often forget that if the food is kept for a longer time and then consumed it could lose its nutritional value and can even be harmful. What we have to do is to make sure that we are consuming the refrigerated food within the required amount of time. Say within 3-4 days at max.

1. Bread
Bread is one of the most essential food items that everyone keeps in their refrigerator. But do you know it can also become foul and bad when refrigerated? Yes, you are reading it absolutely right. Storing bread in refrigerators for more than 3 days can cause it to dry. It is a big no-no to eat it then. Try and store it in the pantry or consume it within 2 days at max.
2. Potatoes
Storing potatoes in the refrigerator sounds as absurd as dogs flying. However, there are people who actually store raw potatoes in the refrigerator. One should never do so as raw potatoes get altered by the cold temperature and tastes sweet when cooked. Make sure to always store them open in baskets.
3. Chocolate
Keeping chocolates in refrigerators makes sense because they might melt otherwise. However, keeping open packets of chocolates in refrigerators is a bad idea. Why? Because then the chocolate absorbs the flavor of other foods and changes its texture. It becomes problematic afterward as eating open packets of refrigerated chocolates causes digestive issues and even loose motions.

4. Fresh Herbs
Herbs always dry out when kept in the refrigerator. It loses its essence and nutritious value. Always keep herbs like basil or rosemary in a small glass of water away from direct sunlight and at room temperature.
5. Honey
Honey is another item that loses its flavor when kept in the refrigerator. What to do then? It is always sensible to keep honey in closed containers in some dark place. That way it will not go bad.
6. Cucumber
It is always advisable to consume cucumbers when they are fresh. Keeping them in the refrigerator for a day or 2 is not that bad of an idea. However, keeping it for more than 2 days makes it watery and pitted. Eating such items is never a good idea.
7. Avocados
Keeping avocados at room temperature makes them ripe well. Therefore, always prefer to keep them in open areas like kitchen counters and avoid keeping them in refrigerators.

8. Garlic
Garlic is another food item that is supposed to be kept in open areas. Preferably a basket. Keeping them in refrigerators may cause them to become rubbery which does not taste as night as it should.
9. Coffee
Don’t we all seek a fresh cup of coffee? Be it a cold or a hot one? Keeping coffee in the fridge is never a good idea because again it might absorb the flavor of other food items. Never put any open coffee packets in the refrigerator as well.
10. Bell Peppers
Keeping bell pepper at low temperatures makes them rubbery and watery. Nobody wants that. Therefore do not keep them in refrigerators for long and use them fresh!
11. Onions
Last but not least onions. Keeping chopped onions in refrigerators makes them mushy and they might grow even in that low temperature. Always keep them at room temperature and use them fresh.
