Amul Responds After A Video Questioning The Quality Of Milk Goes Viral

Anand Milk Union Limited, popularly known as Amul, is a significant participant in the dairy business in India. However, this is not its only identity. Notably, Amul played a pivotal role in transforming India. From a milk-deficient country to one of the world’s largest milk producers, Amul has changed India’s image.

Started as a cooperative society, it has revolutionized the dairy sector in India and made a substantial socioeconomic contribution to the development of rural areas. To accommodate a variety of consumer tastes, Amul sells a broad range of dairy products, including milk, butter, cheese, ice cream, and more. This product diversification has strengthened India’s dairy sector and opened new markets for dairy farmers.

Due to the brand’s immense popularity, it is one of the most recognizable trademarks in the nation. The credit for this wholesome popularity goes to its positive publicity. However, in recent years, Amul has faced several challenges merely due to the emergence of negative publicity against the brand.

Something similar recently happened due to which concerns about the quality of Amul’s milk have become the talk of the town.

A video is making rounds on social media questioning Amul’s milk quality

In response to a viral video that was making the rounds on social media, Amul finally broke its silence. To address public concerns, Amul released a statement on its official Instagram handle. Calling the video a “fake post,” Amul disputed the claims. They claimed that it was made to generate misinformation and spread needless worry and fear among consumers.

The video was first posted in 2019 and has now reappeared. Using a screenshot of the video, Amul posted,

“This is for your kind information that a video is being forwarded on WhatsApp and Social Media platforms regarding Amul Milk. The video was shot in 2019 as it can be seen from the date of packaging shown in the video is 14 December 2019.”

Amul clarified rumors about changes in the quality of milk

Amul also clarified that changes from the suggested storage guidelines may lead to changes in the quality of milk. They also stressed that these incidents are not exclusive to their brand but rather might impact any type of milk. Speaking about this, Amul said,

“The problem shown in this video is a common issue in any brand of milk. This happens due to an increase in the acidity of the milk if not stored as per the storage instructions. It is clear from the video that the milk was subjected to heat during which it started to curdle (form small specks of casein particles) which started to aggregate due to continuous stirring. We understand that this phenomenon of stirring was continued for some time which resulted in the formation of a cheese/paneer-like mass and clear separation of whey (which can be observed as a greenish liquid in the pan during the extraction of the coagulated mass).”

Furthermore, Amul urged customers not to fall for this “misinformation and spread unnecessary fear.”

They claimed that this video has been used to disseminate false information and incite unwarranted worry. They added,
