Actors replaces in Bollywood Movies

The Bollywood film industry produces the highest number of films globally. Every year hundreds of films are released in Bollywood and some of them garner wide acclaim for plots and cast. Albeit there are various Bollywood movies which undergo changes for making the film more appealing and profound. One of the constituent changes include the change in the movie cast. And in Bollywood there have been various instances when the actors have been replaced due to some weird reasons.

Here we come up with a list of Bollywood movies which underwent through replacements in cast because of some weird reasons.

1. Supriya Pathak replaces Smriti Irani in All Is Well

All Is Well, a 2015 romantic-comedy drama was directed by Umesh Shukla. Though the film failed to hook up the audience and didn’t receive a critical acclaim as well, but had a strong cast constituting Rishi Kapoor, Abhishek Bachchan, Supriya Pathak and Asin in lead roles.
Supriya Pathak played on-screen mother of Junior Bachchan in the film but earlier the role was supposed to be played by Smriti Irani. Infact some sequences of the movie was shot with Smriti Irani, that why the film has continuity issues as well. During the filming, Smriti Irani became the HRD Minister and got too busy and hence Supriya Pathak replaced her in the movie.

2. Govinda cameo was removed from Jagga Jasoos

Jagga Jasoos, a musiacal adventure directed by Anurag Basu and released in 2017 had the potential of becoming a critically acclaimed film globally but the long delay in its editing ruined its prospects of becoming an internationally celebrated film. Very few people must be aware that Govinda was supposed to play a cameo role in the movie but somehow the plans didn’t materialize.

A couple of years later after the release of the movie, director Anurag Basu made a clarification that Govinda wasn’t included into the movie because of changes in the storyline.

3. John Abraham replaced Sushant Singh Rajput in Romeo Akbar Walter

Romeo Akbar Walter was a 2019 action-drama revolving around the life of a spy, starring John Abraham in the lead role and was directed by Robby Grewal.

The makers of the movie had already released the official posters as well as the motion posters starring Sushant Singh Rajput in the lead role but Sushant being pre-occupied with other projects like Drive and Raabta walked off the movie. Later the makers found their replacement in John Abraham in the lead role.

4. Harshvardhan Rane replaced Abhishek Bachchan in Paltan

Paltan was a 2018 war-action movie directed by J.P Dutta and having a huge star cast including Jackie Shroff, Sonu Sood, Harshvardhan Rane, Ronit Roy, Esha Gupta to name a few.

Abhishek Bachchan was cast in the movie to play a significant role but Junior Bacchan left the project just before the movie went on to the shooting floor. Later the makers finalized the newbie Harshvardhan Rane for the role to be earlier played by Abhishek Bachchan. The storyline of the movie revolved around Indo-China war but failed to have an impact on the audience.

5. Ayushmann Khurrana replaced Harshvardhan Kapoor in Andhadhun

Andhadhun was a 2018 comedy-thriller directed by Sriram Raghvan and starred Ayushmann Khurrana, Tabu and Radhika Apte in the lead roles. The film performed exceptionally well and received wide critical acclaim as well. After the release, Ayushmann Khuranna became one of the most sought after actors of Bollywood. The movie played a significant role in the career of Ayushmann as he received his first National Award for Andhadhun.

Little do we know that Andhadhun was earlier offered to Harshvardhan Kapoor but the star kid walked out of the project because of creative differences with director Sriram Raghvan. Moreover Sriram Raghvan has a tendency of making his cast get into the skin of the character so he also wanted Harshvardhan Kapoor to attend the workshop which Harshvardhan refused. Later on Ayushamann was contacted for the lead role and he was ready to do anything for the lead role.

6. Akshay Kumar replaced Randeep Hooda in Kesari

Kesari was a 2019 war action directed by Anuarag Singh and starred Akshay Kumar in the lead role. The movie revolves around the events leading to the Battle of Saragarhi, a battle between 21 soldiers of the 36th Sikhs of the British Indian Army and 10000 Afridi and Orakzai Pashtun tribesmen in 1897.

Kesari was earlier decided to be shot with Randeep Hooda in the lead role and almost fifty percent sequence was shot with him when distributors walked out. Later Akshay Kumar was casted into the lead role and the movie became a blockbuster hit.

7. Shahid replaced Arjun Kapoor in Kabir Singh

Kabir Singh was a 2019 romantic-drama and the remake of famous South-Indian movie Arjun Reddy. The movie was directed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga and featured Shahid Kapoor in the titular role. Though little do we know that Shahid Kapoor was not the first one to be approached for the lead role.

Arjun Kapoor was supposed to play the titular role but since Sandeep Reddy Vanga had met Shahid before so he wanted to cast Shahid only in the lead role. Hence Arjun Kapoor backed off the project and Shahid Kapoor became the new romance icon of Bollywood.

8. Tabu replaced Rekha in Fitoor

Fitoor is a 2016 romantic-drama directed by Abhishek Kapoor and constituting a diverse star cast including Tabu, Siddharth Roy Kapur, Lara Dutta, Katrina Kaif, Ajay Devgn, Aditi Rao Hydari etc. The movie is based on the famous book ‘Great Expectations’ written by Charles Dickens. The film garnered mixed reviews from the audience while some claiming it to be a poor work of fiction and other considering it to be poetic at many levels.

The character of Begum Hazrat Jaan Mahal portrayed beautifully by Tabu was the soul of the entire film. But to your surprise the role was earlier offered to veteran actor Rekha who walked out of the film because of uncanny similarities between her and the character of Begum Hazrat Jaan Mahal.
