A similar incident happened with a customer who ordered food via Zomato and was shocked to find a non-veg burger delivered instead of the veg one they had requested. Disturbed by the mix-up, the customer took to social media platform X to share their ordeal. Zomato responds.

Customer shares ordeal of how Zomato delivered non-veg burger instead of veg

An ex-user named Shilpi recently took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to narrate a troubling incident with a food order. She shared that she had placed an order for a veg burger from a certain restaurant, but what was delivered turned out to be a non-veg burger. The burger, she explained, was meant for her boyfriend, who is a pure vegetarian.

After eating a few bites, he suspected something was wrong and asked her to taste it. That’s when the shocking discovery was made, it was a chicken patty instead of a vegetarian one. Expressing her frustration, Shilpi wrote on X,

“I ordered burger from certain restro i ordered veg . They sended nonveg. Ordered for my boyfriend he’s pure veg he took few bites and asked me to taste it when I did it was chicken patty . #zomatoscam #zomato #burgersingh”

To make her complaint stronger, she also attached photographic evidence of the patty and tagged Zomato, ZomatoCare, and Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal.

For someone who is strictly vegetarian, such a mix-up isn’t just a minor error, it can be deeply disturbing and a breach of trust. The tweet thus prompted Zomato to react.

Soon after the tweet was made public, Zomato responded

Zomato was quick to respond to the post, addressing the customer directly via her handle @Sehzadi13. In their reply, the food delivery platform wrote,

“Hi Sehzadi, this is extremely upsetting for us as we deeply respect all dietary preferences. Please DM us your order ID so we can take this up with the restaurant partner.”

While their message did show regret and an attempt to resolve the issue, it also highlighted a recurring problem that many vegetarians face on delivery platforms.

Despite repeated assurances, such problematic mix-ups never seem to stop. While the immediate fault lies with the restaurants preparing and packing the wrong order, the bigger question is why no stricter checks or actions are enforced, given how sensitive and serious these errors are. For vegetarians and those with strict dietary choices, such lapses are more than just mistakes, they can feel like a violation of trust.
