Food delivery platforms like Zomato are a convenient way to enjoy your favorite meals from the comfort of your home. However, things start to feel fishy when you notice hiked-up prices for the same item from the same outlet while you order it from different devices. Naturally, it raises suspicions of a scam. A recent case of this was shared by a customer on X, who exposed this pricing inconsistency.
Zomato customer took to social media platform X and called out scam over varying charges
A Zomato customer recently took to the social media platform X to expose what he called a scam by the food delivery giant. The user shared a surprising experience where he tried ordering the same two pizzas from the same outlet but using two different phones. What he noticed shocked him.

Despite ordering identical items from the same restaurant, the final charges were not the same. He pointed out that while one phone showed the restaurant packaging charge as Rs 20, the other phone showed it as Rs 40, literally double the amount. He even attached screenshots as proof, clearly showing the difference in charges.
“Zomato scam. I add to cart 2 pizza each from 2 different phone from same outlet In 1st phone package charge is 20 while in other it doubles to 40”

The user questioned the fairness of such price manipulation and tagged @zomatocare, asking why this happened even though the orders were from the same outlet and included the same items. He expressed his frustration and disappointment with the platform’s pricing transparency.
“@zomatocare why such thing happen if i am ordering same thing from same outlet using different phone”
He concluded his post by tagging @jagograhakjago, an Indian consumer rights initiative, and used the hashtag #scam, urging fellow customers to stay alert and question such discrepancies.

Zomato responds with a generic reply
Soon after the tweet was made, Zomato stepped in and responded in the comment section. However, instead of providing any clarification or explanation regarding the pricing difference, the platform dropped a generic reply. Their comment read,
“Hi there, we would like to look into this. Please DM us your registered contact details for both the accounts, so we can assist you further.”

This standard response did little to address the core issue raised by the customer.

To say that such replies by Zomato only deflect the matter rather than offering real accountability or a clear reason behind the inconsistent charges would not be so wrong.
