Food delivery services have grown significantly in India during the last ten years. Originally centered in large cities, these services have now spread to Tier 2 and Tier 3 regions. Food delivery apps like Zomato, Swiggy, and Uber Eats have discovered a significant opportunity in the Indian food sector, all thanks to better logistics, collaborations with regional restaurants, and India’s expanding internet reach.

However, despite its growth, the food delivery industry faces many kinds of challenges. Some of the difficulties came from the partners’ end, while others came from the application itself. Nonetheless, the most common grievance regarding these services is their bad handling of food deliveries. We always heard about food delivery getting late or rotten food being delivered. However, the most serious ones are always delivery swapping or receiving the wrong order. Something similar recently happened with a customer who received paneer momos instead of chicken momos. Now, Zomato has responded to her allegations.

Zomato mistakenly delivers chicken momos instead of paneer momos to a hardcore vegetarian

Recently, a customer named Sonakshi Misra vented her frustration on X, formerly known as Twitter, on receiving the wrong order. The order was so wrong that it gave her lifelong trauma. What happened is that she originally ordered paneer momos from Zomato. However, instead of delivering that, Zomato delivered chicken momos. She realized this when she opened the packaging and observed chicken pieces.

In her X post, she mentioned that she is a hard-core vegetarian and that this mistake is an insult to her religious beliefs. She also demanded a formal apology and full compensation from Zomato. In her post, she wrote,

@zomato this is OUTRAGEOUS! Ordered paneer momos from Beijing Blend, got chicken instead. I’m a HARDCORE vegetarian — this isn’t just carelessness, it’s a direct insult to my religious beliefs. I demand a FULL REFUND, a FORMAL APOLOGY, and COMPENSATION for this trauma. #Shameful

How has Zomato responded to the complaint?

Following Sonakshi’s post on X, Zomato apologized to her and emphasized that they took her dietary restrictions very seriously and would never intentionally offend her. Additionally, they requested more information from her. In their reply, Zomato wrote,

Hi Sonakshi, this is extremely upsetting for us as we take your dietary preferences very seriously and would never intend to disrespect them. Please share your order ID via DM so we can resolve this at the earliest with the restaurant partner.

After some time, Sonakshi shared a new post, in which she informed that although she received a refund, she still wanted full compensation for this traumatic experience. She wrote,

I got the refund but I need a compensation. It was something really bad for me.

Meanwhile, incidents like these are becoming normal with every passing day. Last month, in April, a man claimed that he ordered vegetarian biryani on Zomato but instead received chicken biryani. On social media, he posted a video he had taken of the food box with the green vegetable tag on it. Soon after this, the video of the incident went viral on social media, with many people trolling Zomato’s facilities. Many people pointed out that these types of mistakes are not new and are happening somewhere every single minute.
