A politician is expected to choose their words carefully, as their public statements can have far-reaching consequences. However, a female congress politician failed to do so when she made an insensitive remark fat-shaming Indian cricketer and skipper Rohit Sharma. Her careless comment quickly sparked a buzz on social media, drawing widespread criticism. The incident prompted the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to break its silence and address the controversy.

On Monday, Congress leader Shama Mohamed found herself in the midst of an unnecessary controversy when she took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to post an insensitive comment about Indian cricketer and skipper, Rohit Sharma. In her now-deleted post, Shama mocked Rohit’s physique, calling him “fat for a sportsman” and suggesting that he “needs to lose weight.” She didn’t stop there, also labeling him as “the most unimpressive Indian captain.”
Her tweet read as we quote,
“@ImRo45 is fat for a sportsman! Need to lose weight! And, of course, the most unimpressive captain India has ever had.”
She further mentioned,
“What is so world class about him when compared to his predecessors like Ganguly, Tendulkar, Dravid, Dhoni, Kohli, Kapil Dev, Shastri & the rest! He is a mediocre captain as well as a mediocre player who got lucky to be the captain of India.”
Her remark not only body-shamed the cricketer but also questioned his leadership abilities, which many fans found uncalled for, especially considering Rohit’s remarkable contributions to Indian cricket.

It’s a weak try on her part to get cheap publicity as no one knows her in the nation.
Also may be she is frustrated as India destroyed Pakistan badly under Rohit’s captaincy time and again.— Pratiksha Tripathi🇮🇳 (@Pratiks46621111) March 3, 2025
