Choosing not to have children is always seen as a strange and wacky thing to hear from anyone, especially it comes from women. These kinds of women are consistently marginalized by society’s inability to distinguish between parenthood and women.

But now, things are changing and more and more women are adopting this phenomenon and many eminent personalities are taking this up and talking about this on public platforms. A most recent example of it is Upasana Kamineni Konidela!

Upasana recently talked openly about the pressure from society to have children as well as her decision to forego having children at an event. Spiritual guru Sadhguru responded by praising her decision.

Prior to this week, Upasana had a conversation with Sadhguru during the 17th ATA Convention and Youth Conference. Upasana said she had a private question for him at one point. After mentioning her husband’s most recent blockbuster, RRR, she said,

“I have been very happily married for 10 years now. I love my life, I love my family but why do people find it their duty to question my RRR. RRR is my relationship, my ability to reproduce, and my role in my life. There are so many women like me who would want an answer to this.”

In his reply, Sadhguru avoided discussing the connection and instead focused on the second R—reproduction. He stated,

“If you stay this way, not reproducing, I am going to give you an award. I have already announced an award for all those young women, who are healthy and can reproduce but choose not to. This is the greatest service you can do right now. This is not an endangered species.”

Applauding her, he added,

“We are just too many. We are heading towards 10 billion in the next 30-35 years. Man is worried about carbon footprint but if the human footprint is reduced, there is no need to worry about global warming too. So, it’s good to see women who chose to not reproduce.”

Upasana responded to this by saying,

“I would make you speak with my mother and mother-in-law very soon.”

Talking about this, Ram Charan also stated in a news conference the previous year,

“As a son of megastar Chiranjeevi, I have the responsibility of making fans happy. If I start a family, I may deviate from my mission. Upasana also has a few goals. So, we decided not to have kids for some years.”

The movie was a complete flop at the box office, failing to even reach the $100 million threshold.
