Student protests are sweeping across India, led by the Gen Z ‘Cockroach Janta Party.’ Thousands of youths have taken over Jantar Mantar in New Delhi and have protested across the country. The protests seek structural educational reform in response to issues surrounding systemic inefficiencies and paper leaks in the national NEET-UG exam for medicine. When a peaceful march to Parliament faced brutal police forces, widespread public outrage ensued.

Importantly, the Indian film industry is not immune to this political activism anymore. Breaking their usual non-political stance, Bollywood celebrities have stepped forward to express support in solidarity. Amidst all this, Bollywood actress Preity Zinta faced backlash online due to her post regarding the protests. An independent journalist even made fun of her, asking if she had got any script from the government. Taking no time, Zinta hit back at him with her signature humour and fierceness.

An independent journalist tried to mock Preity Zinta for her post on student protests

Recently, actor Preity Zinta, via her Twitter account X, shared her opinion regarding the current protests by the students, asking people to back the students’ demands but not the purported hijacking of the protests by the anti-national forces. While standing for her belief in democracy and law and order, Zinta has said that she believes in working hard and believing in equality and excellence and hopes that everyone indulges in constructive dialogue without any of the nefarious influences in the protest movement. She concluded her post with the hope of a brighter future for the youth of India and democracy with “Jai Hind.”

However, the post garnered varied reactions. While some asked her to strictly condemn the police brutality, others just applauded her for at least taking a stand. Among them, an independent journalist named Rahil Mohammed tried to mock her by indirectly referring to her past pro-government stances. Replying to Preity Zinta’s post, Rahil wrote,

Got the script from the Bee Jay Pee

Preity Zinta defends her remark on student protests by rejecting claims of getting the script from government

Addressing the claim straightaway, Zinta rejected the charge and even lashed out at the journalist’s comment. Pointing out that since the criticism was not spelt correctly, it did not hold much weight, she wrote,

No ! I write my own script and would have been humoured by your comment but you cannot even spell right so aap toh rehne hi do.

How did netizens react to his exchange?

The exchange soon became popular on X, as people commented on the actress’s opinions on the protest and her harsh reaction to the reporter. Although some were in favour of her call for peaceful protests and discussion, others condemned her statements.
