The railways have always been referred to as the lifeline of India, which links people, culture, and economy in every part of this extensive country. Millions of passengers use railway facilities daily for various purposes like work, education, tourism, and visiting their families, which makes the railway system of India one of the busiest and most important in the world. From luxury trains to affordable passenger services, rail travel continues to be the preferred mode of transportation for people from all walks of life.
Nevertheless, due to millions of people using the railway services every day, the question of passengers’ safety and comfort arises constantly. Problems related to overcrowding, fighting over seats, theft, and even sexual harassment occur from time to time. Recently, Indian Railways responded after a woman shared a video alleging that a man made obscene gestures at her during a train journey.

You did the right thing by registering the complaint.
The thing you did wrong was that smile while you were responding to him.

This is exactly why most women don’t report these things. Instead of focusing on the man’s disgusting behaviour, people are busy questioning why she smiled. The harassment is the problem, not her reaction.
