Social media platforms, which were previously utilized by celebrities just for keeping themselves in touch with their audience and for advertising purposes, have now become forums where celebrities communicate directly with their followers and critics. While it allows them to befriend their audience easily, this direct interaction leaves them vulnerable to continuous criticism and comments. Whether it be on their appearance or lifestyle, everything about the life of celebrities comes under the discussion of internet users.
Trolling has transformed itself from sporadic criticism to persistent behavior through social media over the years. Many comments are lighthearted; however, some are highly personal and offensive. Interestingly, many celebrities and their families have chosen not to remain silent. In a recent instance, Sshura Khan, the wife of actor Arbaaz Khan, reacted to a troll who made fun of her for marrying Arbaaz Khan, highlighting that she married an old man because of their age difference.
