Corporate work culture today is becoming increasingly stressful, especially when work-life balance takes a hit because of difficult team leaders. Many employees feel constantly monitored, leaving little room for trust or autonomy. Recently, a striking example went viral when an employee revealed how his team leader demanded full flight booking proof despite the leave already being approved. The incident sparked debate on workplace boundaries and the rising pressure on employees.

Employee shares his infuriating tale of a toxic team leader who asked for flight ticket proof despite approving the leave

A recent post on r/IndianWorkplace has gone viral for perfectly capturing how suffocating corporate life can get when a team leader becomes unnecessarily controlling. The employee begins by revealing where he works, writing,

“Working in one of the WITCH/CHWTIA/LALA (it falls under all) company.”

He then explains that he had his holiday planned well in advance,

“I had an approved holiday plan from a month ago. I reminded my TL earlier this week. He kept delaying giving mail approval even though he verbally agreed. Then suddenly, last minute, he tried to force a half day shift on the day of my flight. Fine. Whatever.”

The real issue began when his flight timings changed. He wrote,

“Today, I tell him my flight got moved earlier than expected and I won’t be coming in. He immediately replies, ‘Share the flight booking details.’ Not a screenshot of the timing. Not a written confirmation. He literally wanted the full booking details. As if he is immigration. As if I owe him my itinerary. As if my personal travel is something a TL in a call center is entitled to audit.”

Tired of the harassment, he chose to disconnect completely,

“I said nothing. I blocked him on SMS. I blocked him on calls. I blocked him on WhatsApp. He tried calling multiple times and even messaged me there. Deleted the chat without opening. Phone was on silent. Slept peacefully.”

The employee further shares how this is the same Tl who denied WFH because of personal annoyance

He then pointed out that this behaviour wasn’t new. The employee shared,

“This is the same TL who denied my WFH earlier for a reason he admitted was personal annoyance. The same TL who changed Thanksgiving dates last minute because management messed up the calendar. The same TL who expects us to run to our seats like nuclear launch operators.”

And the final straw? His TL demanding his boarding pass. He expressed his frustration through sarcasm, writing,

“And now he wants my boarding pass. What next? Proof of diarrhea during sick leave? A selfie of me vomiting? Mandatory s*x video for paternity leave?”

In his concluding note, he firmly stated his boundaries and decision,

“I am not this guys property or subordinate outside office. My personal travel plans are not for you to verify. If you don’t trust your employees enough to take a leave without demanding proof, that is a management failure, not an employee issue.”

He also added,

“Exit countdown: 3 months. TL blocklist: Permanent.”

His post has now sparked a wide conversation about toxic supervision, lack of trust, and the worsening work-life balance in corporate India.
