She shared that on her Ola bike ride home, the driver stopped midway as the petrol ran out.

Ayushi wrote that in that moment, she had two options,
“End the ride, book another cab, move on with my day or
Walk with him to the nearest petrol pump.”
Interestingly, she chose the second one.
She further wrote, sharing,
“We walked about 1 km together. My ETA changed from 6:33 PM to 7:00 PM, but I thought, ‘It must be so tough for him. At least I’ll get my evening walk in.’”
That one simple decision – to walk alongside a stranger instead of walking away – would later leave her reflecting on empathy, patience, and how invisible kindness can feel.
After the tank was filled, they continued the journey. However, a Rs 7 lesson was to come her way, making her think that her kindness was invisible.
“He dropped me home. I paid the fare – Rs 101 – and started walking toward my house. He called me back. ‘Madam, Rs 108 hota hai.’ I was confused. ‘How? It was Rs 101 earlier.’ ‘Is it because of the extra distance to the petrol pump?’ ‘Yes. I think so.’”
Ayushi added,
“I paid the Rs 7 and walked home with a heavy heart. I started crying in front of my mom. Not because of Rs 7 — but because in that moment, it felt like my empathy was invisible. I had walked with him through his problem, stayed patient through the delay, and in return, he asked extra money for the detour caused by his empty tank.”
She shared how her brother was laughing after seeing her crying for 7 Rs. Ayushi, however, clarified how it was never about the money. That’s when her mother’s words changed everything,

“Sometimes people are so caught up in their own struggles that they can’t see the kindness around them. That doesn’t make your kindness worthless – it just means he was probably too worried about his own day to notice yours.”
Those words reshaped her perspective and became the heart of her post.

“Empathy isn’t transactional. You don’t give it to get it back. People in survival mode often can’t afford to see beyond their immediate needs. Your kindness has value even when it goes unacknowledged.”
