The Bollywood film industry is credited with making second highest number of films in the world. With such a big number of films produced every year, there also comes a need for the recognition and appreciation of such films. So Bollywood hosts quiet a number of award functions spanning across various categories. In Bollywood award functions become much more significant and special because it is an event where all Bollywood celebrities can be seen collectively. In order to keep every Bollywood celebrity in attendance happy, different award categories are created so that every Bollywood celebrity attending the award function goes back home with a award.

Over the years the Bollywood award shows have being doubtful and controversial with viewer frustration surrounding around them increasing to manifold. Every year newer award functions are added as if money and effort don’t even matter. Basically to justify the giant expenditure done on movies, newer award categories are being created every year but literally making no sense. For example the “Fitinspiration” award was presented to Malaika Arora making no sense because there are fitter people than her in the industry.

In the year 2019, viewing all the Award functions hosted in Bollywood we came across certain award categories which were bizarre and literally made no sense. Check them out and let us know that even you felt the same level of weirdness by knowing about these award categories.

1. 20 Years Best Actor (Male and Female)

This award was presented to the Ram-Leela couple of bollywood i.e. Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone at the 20th IIFA Awards when the duo had just returned from their wedding ceremony. Its quiet obvious that the award was presented to them for the sake of TRP instead of recognition of these actors amazing work over the past few years.

Alongside Ranveer Singh was awarded the Best Actor (Male) for ‘Padmaavat’ surpassing more deserving actors like Ayushmann Khurrana and Rajkummar Rao.

2. Beauty Tastemaker Award

The name of the award category itself sounds so weird. This award was presented to Janhvi Kapoor by Elle Beauty Awards. I am still wondering whether this award refers to the tastemaker in Maggie. If that is the case then Janhvi Kapoor must be attributed with adding masala to the 2-minutes plot cook-ups like Dhadak. The movie nowhere made justice to the original Marathi movie, Sairat that portrayed relevant, gritty issues like inter-caste marriages and honor killing.

Consequently the societal issues showcased in Sairat were reduced to generic sub-plots in Dhadak.

3. Flawless Beauty Award

Elle Beauty Awards presented this award to Manushi Chhillar. Manushi Chhillar is an inspirational woman and was crowned the title of Miss World in 2017. Instead of awarding Manushi in this redundant and repetitive category, Elle Beauty Awards could have awarded in a more meaningful category which could have highlighted her philanthropic side.

4. Game Change Of The Year

The young environmentalist and the Nobel Peace prize nominee, Greta Thunberg was awarded the ‘Game Changer Of The Year’ by the international GQ panel. The Indian counterpart of the GQ jury selected Hrithik Roshan for the ‘Game Changer Of The Year’ award but the achievements of Hrithik Roshan and Greta Thunberg are incomparable and we as an audience are left to wonder what game changing acts Hrithik did.

5. Rule Breaker Of The Year

‘GQ Men Of The Year’ awarded Katrina Kaif with the title of ‘Rule Breaker Of The Year’ in 2019. Agreed that Katrina Kaif is a beautiful lady and talented dancer as well but we can’t ignore the fact that in the year 2019 only one movie featuring Katrina Kaif was released and that was Bharat having Salman Khan in the lead role. Now you can clearly imagine that most of the screen space and time was taken up by Salman Khan and Katrina hardly had any screen space in the movie.

6. Honorary Millennial Of The Year

Karan Johar, director who is always been accredited with the title of ‘Flag Bearer Of Nepotism’ and who is a man in his late forties was awarded with the title ‘Honorary Millennial Of The Year’ at the Grazia Millenial Awards, isn’t it strange with absolutely making no sense. If his movies like Student Of The Year and Student Of The Year 2 are indicators of his millennial mindset then one has to firmly point out the flaws in the predictable movie plots.

7. Fitspiration

In the year 2019 Malaika Arora was honoured with the title of ‘Fitspiration’ by Vogue Beauty Awards. Agreed that she turned out as an inspiration when she danced on Munni Badnam in 2010 but why honouring her with an award now. How did the organizers of the Award Function missed out some deserving names for the title like Sushmita Sen, Shilpa Shetty or Milind Soman?

8. Baat Nayi Award

Star Screen Awards presented this award to the movie Luka Chuppi. The movie focused on live-in relationship, a topic which is still considered as a taboo in the country. However we should take note that this is not the first time that the issue of live-in has been the highlight of a Bollywood movie. Cocktail, Bachna Ae Haseeno, Salaam Namaste and several other preceding movies have already showcased the odd and even of live-in relationships on silver screen. So it has left the audience wondering what made the jury consider the movie for “Nayi Baat Award”.
