Sharib was born in Malad, Mumbai, Maharashtra, into a middle-class family. His father, Z. A. Johar was a film journalist and wrote for ‘Mayapuri’, an old film magazine. Sharib grew up with people like Govinda, Anupam Kher, Raj Babbar, Gulshan Grover, Farah, and Divya Bharti visiting his house. He also has a brother named Aquil Hashmi.

2. Sharib Hashmi did his schooling at St. John’s Model English High School, Mumbai

He did his schooling in his native city and also graduated from Bhavan’s College, Mumbai, Maharashtra. His dad always encouraged him to join the Asha Chandra Acting School, but he didn’t give much thought to it back then.

3. Sharib Hashmi wife and family

He married his wife Nasreen Hashmi in 2003. He also has two children, a son named Shayaan and a daughter named Inaaya.

4. He left his job to pursue acting

He was passionate about becoming an actor, and that’s why he left a private job to enter the film industry. He even worked in two films while he was still an employee at his previous company.

5. Before acting, he worked as an assistant director

Sharib worked as an assistant director for the 1999 film Hum Tum Pe Marte Hain which starred Govinda, Urmila Matondkar, Dimple Kapadia, and many other prominent actors.

6. His wife sacrificed her luxuries for fulfilling Sharib’s dreams

Sharib once said that his wife, Nasreen Hashmi, sold all her jewellery so that he could pursue his acting ambitions without worrying about the food on the table. Later, they also had to sell their house, car, and children’s savings. He credits his wife and his friend Nitin Kakkar, the Filmistaan director, for his success in the film industry.

7. Sharib Hashmi’s debut film was an Oscar-winning film

Sharib debuted through a minor role in the Oscar-winning 2008 film Slumdog Millionaire. The film was nominated for ten Academy Awards in 2009 and won eight of them, the most for any 2008 film.

10. In The Family Man, he was supposed to be Ghosh instead of Talpade

The story included the character, JK Ghosh. When Sharib auditioned for the role, the selection committee liked his acting skills. But due to his Marathi ascent, they decided to change the name of the character to JK Talpade.
