Born on January 11, 1973, in Indore Dravid had a fondness for cricket since his childhood. He used to play cricket on the streets of Bangalore.

Dravid explains the reason for refusing an honorary doctorate from Bangalore University

The former Indian cricketer and captain Rahul Dravid is the coach of Indian Cricket team. He who hails from Karnataka was in the year 2017 nominated by the Bangalore University for an honorary doctorate that he refused to accept and it sure was not out of any haughtiness.

While talking to the Indian Express he gave his reason for not accepting the honorary doctorate. He gave a simple and straightforward response that the reason for not accepting it is truly personal. He does not want anyone to think and feel that he is superior to anyone.

For him, life has always been about honesty and uprightness. His beliefs and the way he actually is would make anyone believe that he is nothing but a true gentleman both on and off the field.

The cause for him not accepting the honorary doctorate was moral in every sense. He says that rather than accepting an honorary degree just like that he would actually like to earn it after doing some real research in his life.

He adds that for him it will be truly gratifying and memorable if he receives such kind of titular degree by accomplishing some kind of academic research in the field of sports. In the interview with Indian Express Rahul said,

“The thing about the doctorate is that my mom did her PhD and earned a doctorate at the age of 55. My wife’s a surgeon who studied seven years to get a degree in surgery. And I’ve always felt that if it was something I wanted, I would like to have earned it. I don’t mean that anyone else should have that feeling and I’m not trying to belittle anyone else. It’s just that I felt that way because of my own experiences. And it’s not the first time that people have asked me to become a doctorate. It’s just that it’s happened privately and over an email exchange. And before it’s been announced, I have declined it politely even then. It so happened that this unfortunately came out in public.”

Rahul Dravid does not believe in any shortcuts in life
