A gallon of fuel in Delhi cost Rs 71 when Narendra Modi was elected Prime Minister in 2014. The current price per litre is Rs 105.41. Diesel has been struck particularly severely, with prices in Delhi rising from Rs 57 per litre in May 2014 to around Rs 96.67 per litre presently.
The recent year has seen a significant increase in this number. People have lost jobs and earnings in the last year, while inflation has risen dramatically. This is a double perfect storm! Fuel prices are rising at a time when people’s wallets are shrinking. This should have been a major source of public worry, if not fury and outcry, in an environment where the official growth rate fell hard.

Inflation of prices in a country with a developing economy is normal. But uncontrollable inflation? While many people are outraged by this, others appear to be so unconcerned like nothing is happening.
These guys appeared to be quite furious about rising fuel costs barely 6-7 years ago. In reality, it was one of the reasons why the UPA-2 administration led by Manmohan Singh lost power in 2014. How is it that the same thing that used to irritate them at that time no longer irritates them?
Well, you might not be so shocked to know the names of these people as these people attain celebrity status in the country.

Fuel price hikes were one of the most prominent problems raised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) before 2014. In 2013, the Delhi unit of the BJP conducted a bike ride headed by senior party officials that went to the house of Delhi CM Sheila Dikshit. When party members broke through barricades and attempted to enter the CM’s home, police used water cannons to disperse them. For the media, enough and more graphics were developed.
Because of this, it attracted lots of attention to the issue. It is so much that even many celebrities spoke up about this.
If we ask an opposition leader why they aren’t protesting the fuel price rise today, they will claim it’s pointless since the media won’t cover it anyhow. If you ask journalists why the media is so quiet about rising fuel prices, they’ll tell you that Congress is doing nothing about it.
So, it means that the people I have mentioned earlier are politicians, journalists and actors who are praised by a large section of our society. It also means they are the ones who are that brave 6 to 7 years ago and are now staying silent.
Have a look at these some of them, so that next time when they said something, we will give them an appropriate answer:
1. Akshay Kumar
2. Amitabh Bachchan
3. Anupam Kher
4. Ashoke Pandit
5. Vivek Agnihotri
6. Kabir Bedi
7. Smriti Irani
8. Shiv Aroor
