The Union Cabinet has announced the new National Education Policy 2020 and major transformations have been noticed. The education system has become more outcome-driven and systematic reforms have been noticed.

1. Increased focus on regional languages

The new education policy has made it mandatory to address students in regional languages till class 5 or in some cases till class eight. This has brought in place so that the students know their mother language better.

2. Focus on Sanskrit

As per the new education policy 2020, Sanskrit language needs to be mainstreamed and should be included in the three language options in schools and colleges.

3. Change in current 10+2 structure of schooling

The 10+2 structure in the schools will be replaced by a structure of 5+3+3+4. This will include foundation- 5 years, preparatory- three years, middle three years and secondary four years

4. Students will be flexible to choose their subjects preference till PhD level

In the new educational policy, there will be no major distinction between arts and sciences and between curricular and extra-curricular activities.

5. Exam frequency will be changed

Now the students will have to appear in exams only thrice which is on 3rd standard, 5th standard and eighth standard. Assessment of other classes will focus on critical thinking, clearing conception and analytical skills.

6. Children will be encouraged to learn vocational skills

As per the new education policy 2020, the students should learn at least one vocational course during his career.

7. Board exam pattern will be changed

Board exams in the 10th and 12th standard will include both subjective and objective questions for focusing on the holistic development of the children.

8. Increased importance to arts

The new education policy 2020, the educational institutions will give more importance to arts. Even stress will be given in hiring more local artists, writers, and craftsmen etc. as teachers. This will bring new employment opportunities to local artists.

11. Stress on adult education

Adult education will be stressed upon as per the new education policy 2020. School complexes will be used for adult education.

Online education will be stressed upon and even digital contents will be focused on.

13. Introduction of academic credit bank

If somebody left their education in between then the credits will be transferred to Academic Bank of Credits and one can continue again from where they had left.

14. Introduction of Higher Education Commission of India (HECI)

Education regulators like All Indian Council of Technical Education, University Grants Commission and National Council of Teacher Education will be merged into one Higher Education Commission of India (HECI), which will be set up as a governing body.

15. Coding will be taught to lower grade students

16. Budget for education will be increased

As per the new education policy of 2020 6% of GDP will be allocated for education as compared to 1.7% that was done previously.

17. Introduction of bagless days

Bagless days will be encouraged on several days of the year. On such days the students will be encouraged to take part in the vocational and the extra-curricular activities.

18. Common Aptitude Test will be conducted by NTA

High-quality common exam will be conducted by the The National Testing Agency (NTA) for various subjects like science arts etc. for the university entrance exam at least twice every year.

20. More facilities for specially-abled children

As per the new education policy, more emphasis will be made to the education of the specially-abled children. They will be encouraged to take part fully in the education process. They will be given the support of special mentors, assistive devices, instructors etc.

21. Multiple entries and exit option available for higher educations

If you want you can leave the higher education in the middle and you will still get some sort of certificate. For instance, if you complete four years of education then you will receive a multi-disciplinary bachelor’s degree. If you leave a course after two years then you will get a diploma and if you exit after twelve months then you will still receive a degree of a professional or a vocational course.

22. Extension of right to education

The right to education has been extended and it includes student between three to eighteen years.
