Ever since Mirzapur Season 2 has been announced on Prime Video, all people can talk about are Munna, Guddu, Golu and Kaleen Bhaiya. Such is the popularity of the Pankaj Tripathi starrer within hours of its release; fans gobbled down the entire season in one go. For the starters, Mirzapur is a gory, blood-ridden tale of power that revolves around Guddu Pandit and Munna Tripathi to become the king of Mirzapur.
However, in real life neither Munna nor Guddu, but Munna Bajrangi has once beein hailed as king of Mirzapur, Jaunpur and Varanasi regions of Uttar Pradesh.
Munna Bajrangi aka Prem Prakash Singh who got into the puddles of crime right from the very tender age. He was just 17 when he committed his first murder and a case of possession of illegal arms was registered against him.
A few days after coming out of judicial custody in 1984, Munna Bajrangi killed a trader while trying to loot him. After some crimes now and then, he joined Gajraj Singh’s gang in Jaunpur. Later on he went on to join the likes of Mukhtar Ansari in the 90s and became his close associate. He operated from the Mau region of UP and had a command over the entire eastern region of the state. Bajrangi, allegedly eliminated many people at his master’s order.
Munna Bajrangi, a class 5 dropout, was Ansari’s close aide when the latter murdered BJP leader Krishnanand Rai due to some gang rivalry.
They butchered Rai by firing 400 bullets from six AK-47 rifles in broad daylight. This incident is touted as the biggest display of power in Uttar Pradesh on November 29, 2005.
Sources revealed that, after this murder, Bajrangi moved to Mumbai along with his family. By then he became the most-wanted criminal in over 40 murders and extortion cases. He also had a bounty of Rs. 7, 00,000 on his arrest.
In 2009, he was finally nabbed in Mumbai by Delhi Police in coordination with the Mumbai Police.
On October 29, 2009 Bajrangi was arrested from Mumbai slum. Even when he was in jail, he took part in politics and contested elections in 2012 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls from Mariyahu in Jaunpur as Apna Dal candidate. He, however, lost the election.
It was due to his nexus with politicians and policemen that he was shifted from one jail to another during his prison term.
His reign came to end when Bajrangi was shot dead by Sunil Rathi in July 2018, another prison inmate and a member of rival gang in Baghpat jail. He was shifted in that jail for a brief period for his court appearance in an extortion case.
It was touted as a planned murder and the case is currently being investigated by Central Bureau of Investigation.
Coming back to Mirzapur, the makers maintain that Mirzapur was never supposed to be on the life of Munna Bajrangi. However, his name as well as his blood-smeared life resembles highly to that of Divyendu Sharma’s character in the Pankaj Tripathi-starrer.
Talking about the show Mirzapur Season 2, the second-inning of the popular series is proving to be a massive hint among its fans. Compared to Sacred Games season 2 as it always has been, it is being dubbed as a ‘little less disappointing’ than the Saif Ali Khan-starrer.
Despite the mammoth delay, the show manages to live up to its hype. In the second season, we will see how Kaleen Bhaiya vows to make his son Munna Tripathi the rightful heir of his legacy in Mirzapur. But Munna will be facing a tough competition from beefed-up Guddu Pandit, who has vowed to avenge the murder of his lady love Sweety, aided by a pumped up Golu (Shweta Tripathi).
