1. Lucky Ali’s was born on September 19, 1958, in Bombay, Bombay State (now in Mumbai, Maharashtra).

2. He was born as Maqsood Mehmood Ali.

He later changed his name to Lucky Ali.

3. Son of legendary actor Mehmood Ali.

Ali was second of the eight children to Mehmood who was a popular Bollywood actor of his time and his mother Mahalekha, was half Bengali and half Pathan, the sister of a super-hit actress Meena Kumari.

4. Minoo Mumtaz, a Bollywood actress, and dancer is Lucky Ali paternal aunt.

5. Alma mater.

He attended St. George’s College, Mussoorie, Convent of Jesus and Mary, Hampton Court, Mussoorie, Manekji Cooper (Kindergarten) (Juhu), Bombay Scottish School in Mumbai, and the Bishop Cotton Boys’ School, Bangalore.

He was also member of the school Boxing team when he was in Bishop Cotton Boys’ School.

6. Lucky stayed away from his father for most of his life.

Being in the entertainment industry is quite hectic and you don’t usually get time for anything else. Mehmood was quite a busy actor during 1960’s and 1970’s.

A famous incident quoted in one of Luck Ali interview tells that when,

Mehmood (his father) and the entire family came to receive Lucky after 10 months (from boarding school back home) at the airport, he (Lucky) did not recognize his father and sighed “He is the film comedian Mehmood!”

7. Apart from singing, Lucky also plays guitar really well.

Ali never underwent any sort of professional training to learn singing. He was introduced to music at the age of five and at the age of 13 his mother gifted him guitar.

8. He did a lot of movies and also appeared on the television screen for TV series.

Some of his best performances are in Bharat Ek Khoj (1988), Zara Hatke (2002), Katha Sagar (Cinevistaas) (1986), The Dewarists.

9. Lucky married thrice and is open about his marriages to all his wives.

His first wife was from New Zealand, named Meaghan Jane McCleary. She acted in the music video of O Sanam from his first album Sunoh. Meaghan converted into a Muslim after marrying Lucky but after his second marriage, they got separated. They had kids Ta’awwuz and Tasmia.

His second marriage was with a Persian woman, Anahita who changed her named to Inaya after she converted to a Muslim. He has two kids with his second wife Sara and Raiyan. But just like his first marriage, his second failed after he married the third time.

The third time he married a British Model and a former beauty queen, Kate Elizabeth Hallam in 2010. They have a son named Dani Maqsood Ali and the couple is still together.

10. Being the son of Mehmood and the nephew of Meena, Lucky didn’t fail to make his mark in his acting career as well.

He was first seen in his father’s movie Chote Nawab (The Little Prince) in 1962. He was then seen in some films like Yeh Hain Zindagi (1977), Hamare Tumhare (1979) and Shyam Benegal ‘s Trikaal (1985) in the 1970s and 1980s.

Ali never enjoyed acting and thought he was just fooling around.

11. Started his album debut with a big bang.

His first album Sunoh did amazingly good at the charts and got him so many awards like Best Male Pop Vocalist at the 1996 Screen Awards and also at the Channel V Viewer’s Choice Awards in 1997.

The album was also nominated under the category of indie-pop at the MTV Video Music Awards, which is an international level award.

12. He made his debut in Bollywood with the song Nasha Nasha for the movie Dushman Duniya Ka.

The movie was directed by his father Mehmood.

13. A patriotic album named Meri Jaan Hindustan features Lucky Ali’s song Anjaani Raahon Me which marked 50 years of Indian Independence.

14. Received the 2001 Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer for the song song Na Tum Jaano Na Hum.

He also debuted in Bollywood with the superhit song from movie Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000).

15. Lucky has released seven full-length studio album till date.

Sunoh (1996), Sifar (1998), Aks (2011), Gori Teri Aankhen… (2001), Kabhi Aisa Lagta Hai (2004), Xsuie (2009) and Raasta Man (2011) and all of his albums have done very well in the charts.

16. He was also nominated for the song Aa Bhi Ja which was featured in Sur at the 48th Filmfare Awards.

17. Started a project “Tribe nation”, a pilot project based in Bangalore to support farmers.

He is well acquainted with the farming techniques as well and is making efforts to bring organic farming to the forefront, a step towards promoting farmers.

He had cleaned and sold carpets and has also bred horses and worked on an oil rig off at coast of Pondicherry.

18. Controversies in Lucky Ali’s life.

He was caught up in a tryst of Marijuana, which was not taken well by his father. This led Mehmood to write the script of the film on drug abuse, Dushman Duniya Ka. The movie starred Manzoor, Lucky’s youngest brother. The story was about a boy Lucky who deals with drug abuse and eventually destroys everything in his life.

He was also convicted in a cheque bounce case. He was asked to pay Syed Rizwan an amount of 92 lakhs and failing to do so would have landed him up in the jail for six months.
