After Ending 7-Year-Old Marriage, Mahesh Bhupathi Is Living Happily With Lara Dutta

Lara Dutta and Mahesh Bhupathi are one of the most popular couples. The lady was crowned Miss Universe in 2000 whereas Mahesh was the first Indian to win a Grand Slam tournament. When two wonderful people decide to be together, their reunion becomes no less than a fairytale. We are here to give you some details about their wedding.

Lara’s past relationships

Before getting married to Mahesh, the actress was madly in love with a Bhutanese Mumbai-based model, Kelly Dorji. They dated for nine years and people once thought that they were made for each other. Thus, the news of their breakup came as a big shock.

Kelly was not happy with Lara’s proximity with other men, especially Dino Morea. During the last three years of dating Kelly, the actress was closer to Dino and thus, she decided to end her long-term relationship.

Later, Lara was angry with Dino as his ex-girlfriend Nandita Mahanti would flirt with him openly and he would not say a word to her. This made Lara feel sad and she parted ways with Dino as well after which she found her soul mate, Mahesh Bhupathi.

This is how Lara-Mahesh’s story started

Being famous personalities, Mahesh and Lara had already heard of each other before meeting. Lara met Mahesh for some work in his sports company. However, it is said that the business meeting was just an excuse for him to meet Lara. The latter was bowled over by his simplicity and soon they started dating.

Mahesh was married to a model, Shvetha Jaishankar during that time. They took divorce after seven years of marriage and Lara was held responsible for breaking their home.

The Wedding

Before getting married, the couple dated for some time. They took wedding vows on February 16, 2011, in Bandra, Mumbai in the presence of close friends and family. After 4 days, they had a grand wedding at Sunset Point, Candolim in Goa.

The best part of the couple’s Goan wedding was that they both said things deep from their hearts. Mahesh said,

“Lara, when I first met you, this day was a dream. Today it is reality. When I’m on the tour, not a day goes by without me wishing I was home with you instead, so even when I’m gone I am with you. You are my companion, partner and best friend. I promise to stick by you through hits and flops. I look forward to growing old with you.”

Lara got teary-eyed while saying vows. She stated,

“I promise to return your serves and volley alongside you. I will be with you through our many wins and occasional loss.”

With candlelight path, red roses and white jasmines, the couple had the best beach wedding. The ceremony was no less than an award night as many celebs from Tennis world and Bollywood became its part. Lara wore a white wedding gown designed by Elie Saab that had a 10 meters train and looked gorgeous. Mahesh looked handsome in a black tuxedo.

A year after the wedding, Lara gave birth to Saira Bhupathi on January 20, 2012. She keeps her fans updated by sharing pictures with her daughter. While talking about her little angel, she once said,

“It doesn’t matter if your child is one day old or whether she is 21 years of age. It is constantly evolving, and each parent’s experience is completely different, but it has been a wonderful ride. My daughter has been literally my life’s greatest teacher and she has pushed all the limits as (far as) possible because she is at that age right now.” She further added, “She is pushing it how far it can go before mom erupts, but it is fun and wonderful. Mahesh has been a wonderful and hands-on dad.”
