Well, if you ponder over it, Artificial Intelligence is everywhere around you already. Have a look at your phone’s Siri or Google assistant, it is capable of understanding your commands and providing you suggestions based on your personality and liking. That new video suggestion on YouTube or Netflix is powered by AI too. There are a numbers of ways in which this technology will shape our future.
Let us explore some of the recent cool examples of AI in action:
1. Beating humans at a complex strategy Games
AI has not just started playing video games but defeated top players as well. It learns the game by looking at hours of video of game being played and keeps on improving as it plays. AlphaGo (An AI tool) has beaten the number one world champion in a three-round game of the ancient Chinese strategy game, Go. (Go is considered to be the most complex strategy game – 350 time more complex than chess)
2. Bringing back dead actors to life
AI is helping the entertainment industry to portray the unavailable characters to act in the movie. Remember Grand Moff Tarkin and Princess Leia in Rogue One – A Star Wars story, both of these characters were recreated via AI to match their actual appearance as in 39 year old movie – Star Wars Episode IV. By the way, Peter Cushing who played Tarkin was actually dead years before when movie was shot.

3. Being Mozart and making music
Google’s project Magenta music has created its own music out of scratch, although it is the first step of AI creating Art, there is already a lot of criticism by art lovers, whether it will eventually kill creativity and take over the field of art completely.

4. Generating art
According to a latest news, AI-generated painting has been sold for $432,000 at auction at the Christie’s Prints and Multiples art auction in New York. The piece, called “Portrait of Edmond Belamy,” is the first artwork made entirely by AI to go up for sale at a major art auction.

5. Self-driving cars
Car makers around the world are already building self-driving cars based on Artificial intelligence. These cars can identify other cars, traffic signals, road signs, pedestrians and road markings in real-time and drive on their own. If you happen to visit California, don’t be surprised if a driver less Uber comes to pick you up as there are already self-driving cars being tested on real roads in California.
6. Talking to humans as customer care representatives
Have you ever used the chat feature in an app to report certain issue? Chances are, you might be speaking to an AI based robot instead of an actual human being. AI is capable of understanding human language and also replying accordingly. Recently Google launched Duplex which can make phone calls to actual people, speak to them and even reserve an appointment for you in a restaurant.
7. Detecting brain tumors and other diseases
Artificial Intelligence has already surpassed Doctor’s accuracy in diagnosing certain types of medical conditions in patients. There have been remarkable progress in detecting brain tumors, eye retina diseases and even chances of heart attack in a patient. We hope one day AI plays an important role in complementing doctors’ presence, especially in hard to reach places like remote villages.
8. Protecting wild life
AI is helping humans in identifying threats to endangered species of wild animals by detecting the foot prints of animals through drone surveillance and identifying the location through geo tagging. A company called ChimpFace has developed a facial recognition of chimpanzees to reduce poaching as it help identify illegal digital chimpanzee pet sales, and potentially help map the network of illegal sales online to reduce the instances of wildlife trafficking of chimps.
9. Faster Search and rescue operations
Combining done surveillance with real time AI, companies are able to detect objects (Humans, animals, cars etc.) in calamities like floods and cyclone. This AI based surveillance is 10 times faster than human and can save those precious minutes when required.
