7 Dialogues From Shershaah That Were Actually Spoken By Captain Vikram Batra

Published: Updated: 4 minutes read

When you see a movie, you rarely moved to tears and are hooked to the story at a moment. Most biopics of prominent people are seen with some preconceived notions that the tale will have more drama and is full of typical Bollywood style twists. But if you watch this biopic with the same thought then you will get this biopic totally wrong.

Although the story of Captain Vikram Batra, Param Vir Chakra Awardee, who was martyred in the Kargil War in 1999, is a known one and his story is also available in different forms, but believe me, Sidharth Malhotra starer Shershaah will hit you differently and has plenty of gripping moments with powerful dialogues that keep you hooked to your screen.

One may assume that some of the dialogues show Bollywood’s artistic freedom, but you must understand that Vikram Batra’s story is not like any typical army officer’s story whose valour is only glorified.

Captain Batra was a man who did not fear the intensity of danger on the battlefield, but on the other hand, without uniform, Vikram Batra was just like any other young, charming man who has lots of life tales other than his bravery, as his family, friends, Vikram Batra and Dimple Cheema love story and fellow troops have testified.

Captain Vikram Batra really uttered the following dialogues in real life:

1. Another soldier hit by a bullet that was meant for Vikram

Onscreen, Captain Batra says this to Captain Jamwal (both are Lieutenants at the time), while in reality, Captain Batra said it to his sister over the phone. He said,

“Didi, it was meant for me, and I lost my man.”

His whole interview with journalist Barkha Dutt has been reproduced in the film, including the section when he talks about his codename being caught by Pakistani forces, and how his troops’ reacted to their threats.

5. Interaction between Captain Batra and Pakistani officer over Madhuri Dixit

During the battle, Captain Batra responded to a cocky Pakistani soldier’s pompous assertion about what might end the conflict. However, it didn’t end here. When he shot that Pakistani police officer at point-blank range, Batra told him that it was Madhuri Dixit’s “gift” for you.

Captain Batra’s twin brother, Vishal Batra, told this anecdote during a TedX talk about his brother in real life. With the same words, Batra threw a hand grenade toward an underground Pakistani bunker instead of shooting a Pakistani officer.

6. When Vikram Batra risked his own life to save the life of a fellow soldier

powerful dialogues from Shershaah

In an interaction with Humans of Bombay, Captain Naveen Nagappa, a Kargil War veteran, revealed the actual words that Captain Batra spoke to him. He recounted what Batra said when he is seriously wounded on the battlefield, “Anna, you must go down. You must get treated.” I retorted, “The mission is not accomplished. I will not go.” But he ordered me again & I listened. He said, “Anna, I’ll sort these buggers out!”

7. Because of fellow soldier’s family, he refused to let him go ahead of him

By taking into consideration that soldier’s wife and children were waiting for him at home, Batra prevented another soldier from going ahead of him in the line of duty.
