Social media has completely changed how professionals communicate with one another and with future employers. One advantage of using these job-offering apps is how simple it is for hiring managers and recruiters to find possible applicants for available positions. As a consequence, it’s usual for people to get messages about employment opportunities from managers or HR at various firms.
More and more people are getting job offers via these apps. These apps have become a preferred resource for hiring managers and recruiters seeking skilled individuals. With the platform’s search tools, recruiters may filter prospects based on job titles, locations, and other factors. Therefore, the likelihood of receiving a job offer is higher for professionals who have better profiles.

However, because of this, recruiters as well as employers sometimes get into weird situations. As a result, they sometimes engage in never-heard-before conversations. Roshan Patel, CEO of healthcare startup Walnut, also engaged in a similar situation when he started his entrepreneurial journey.
In his tweet, Roshan Patel revealed how he was continually reminded of the woman’s response for roughly two years. He had contacted a software engineer to inquire about her interest in working for their firm. However, he was surprised by her frank response while rejecting his job offer.
In fact, the entrepreneur was so taken aback by it that he tweeted yesterday that, over two years later, he is still reflecting on it. The whole conversation is currently trending on Twitter.
Walnut founder got an honest reply from the software engineer who rejected his job offer.
The discussion took place in September 2021, not long after Walnut received a pre-seed round investment. Roshan Patel, the company’s founder and CEO, soon started contacting prospective employees for employment. Around this time, he wrote to a woman who worked as a software engineer and said:

I run a startup increasing access to healthcare by making it more affordable. We just raised a pre-seed round and are looking to hire talented engineers. Any interest in chatting?
To Patel’s surprise, the woman replied that her current CTC was more than Walnut’s pre-seed round. She replied,
Hi Roshan, I just checked on Crunchbase and my current salary is more than your entire pre-seed round.
Patel shares a screenshot of this conversation on his Twitter account along with the caption, saying,
Still thinking about this exchange almost 2 years later.
He also hides the woman’s name and semi-blurs her photo. Soon, his post went viral and garnered various mixed reactions.

While some people are taking his side, others are justifying the software engineer’s reply
She ain’t wrong. Especially when 90% of start ups fail. Also, at that salary rate, she is well established in her career doing well.
Just noticed the — after the name, comes across like a spray and pray message probably sent by a script as well.
She said what she said. 👏🏽

Amazing that people put money before purposeful work.
Also, Dear software engineers (making way too much money) – meet AI. 🙃

How dare people try to earn money to survive – absolutely terrible 😜
Her response was out of pocket but turning down a job strictly because of money is perfectly valid and doesn’t make you a terrible person just because of that

Based.
It might seem rude, but good engineers get 10 offers like this per week. It’s always 0.5-1% for a founding eng at 1/10th the salary of big Co’s.
Not worth.

Gotta say, it’s a weird decision to shame someone who’s confident and established because she didn’t respond to your generic message. And feels very intention decision by you to semi-blur the photo.

Despite the fact that Roshan Patel has now deleted his tweet, it is still generating buzz on social media platforms.
