Group of men from various age groups flocking together for a ‘guys trip’ to Bangkok, Thailand is not uncommon. Bangkok is the party hub of Thailand with several options to have fun and relax. The happening city is equally popular among youngsters and middle-aged men and you can spot the excited and hyped folks at the airport security checkpoints.
However, there are times when some people lose their fellow feelings and forget to respect the co-traveler or co-passenger boundaries.

Recently, a Twitter user who happens to be a woman named Vaishnavi was traveling to Bangkok via ThaiAirways. She took to Twitter and shared a tweet where she was all praise for the Thai Airways cabin crew. The woman expressed her gratitude to the crew for helping her after she encountered some middle-aged Tamil uncles who were too loud and behaving inappropriately inside the airplane. She also added that she observed their “loud” “obnoxious”, and “mannerless” behaviour right from the airport gate.
Vaishnavi shared her ordeal with the Indian uncles inside the aircraft on Twitter, here’s what she wrote:
“New found respect for @ThaiAirways cabin crew. Last 2 flights to Bangkok there were gangs of middle aged Tamil uncles who have left their wives behind to have an “enjoy trip” in Bangkok with their buddies and basically drink and buy alcohol”

Here is what happened on the flight
There were 10-12 men in the gang who acted as if they owned the flight and had complete disregard for their fellow passengers.
The absolute terrible behaviour I saw from these men – travelling in gangs of 10-12 – loud obnoxious, mannerless, right from the airport gate to inside the aircraft – complete and utter disregard for their fellow passengers, acting as if they own the plane!

She mentioned that the uncles were tremendously ill-mannered and rude and that they also treated the cabin crew poorly. She wrote,

“And then, the way they treated the poor @thaiairways cabin crew! The sense of entitlement! As if somehow because they bought a ticket to Bangkok, they have a license to behave like assholes. Demanding, not listening to instructions, being rude”

She carried on and shared a video to make people aware of the situation. You can clearly hear the noises made by the men disregarding the plight of their co-passengers.
She also added that these men were the kind who intend on having fun with their guy gang in Bangkok and joke about their wives taking care of their kids back at home. They were intentionally “rowdy” and “uncouth”.
Here is the video
I mean these men are the ones who make jokes about the fact that going back to their wives is a nightmare. They’re the kind who probably go off on “business trips” while the wife is stuck at home taking care of kids. pic.twitter.com/o6gdbRwJsM

The Twitter user also explained why she shared the video
Context: one of the men in the large group of uncles returning home was feeling little sick
So one of the uncles says to the effect: “brother isn’t unwell, he’s just afraid of going home and facing his wife after 4 days in Bangkok”And they all proceed to laugh. https://t.co/JTdn8fZPHl

She continued with her Twitter thread
The amount of second hand embarrassment I felt yesterday, just being from the same country as these people! I mean there are obnoxious rude entitles people in every country, but this is something I’ve seen multiple times on routes like Chennai-Bangkok and Chennai-dubai

Also some people saying “ageism” and all, pls stfu. This is just Indians in general. Mostly men though. Young or old it doesn’t matter. It’s the intention, the route and the behaviour. No one is saying don’t have fun, but behave. This is public space, public property.
— Valia (@Vaishnavioffl) September 15, 2022
My example was specific to 2 instances of gangs of middle aged Indian men who have possibly lied to their wives to go to Bangkok on a “boys trip”, acting all rowdy and uncouth, and then pretending like going home is a fucking nightmare. Old or young I’d have called this out.

As soon as Vaishnavi’s Twitter thread went viral, netizens who have faced similar embarrassing experiences with Indian uncles started sharing their stories
A man with whom I have high hello in gym, because of bong connection, came to me asking for some place for rowdy fun in Noida, & then started telling how he is going to Bangkok with friends without wives for a break

Been there. Seen that in almost every international flight of mine. It is more cringe for me when I saw these type of “uncles” try to approach white women for a picture with them. I literally was like omg.

Have seen that kind of Behaviour it’s typical of BKK , Malaysia route sadly.

Something seriously went wrong with our education and upbringing. Have noticed similar behaviour on so many international flights out of India. They travel in packs, talk loud, bully around.. oh the cringe!

This is ugly n common in BKK route, Free liquor immediately after onboarding and their sense/pride of going for s*x tourism is very pathetic …Indians are berated cos of few individuals like these … money isn’t everything ….Hats Off to Thai Airways for their patience n control!

Wonder what’s with the Thai air route, but wife and I saw the exact same behaviour on a flight to Phuket when two men in the front row made the stewardess visibly uncomfortable with their intent stares and grins.

Experienced the same kind of behavior on Chennai Bangkok flight a few years ago. Imagine how horrible it would have been if AirAsia cabin crew asked a woman sitting next to these men to change seats!

I used to travel regularly to Thailand on business. Luckily business class, but I still felt excruciating 2nd hand embarrassment on many flights. Once at Delhi immigration, a Haryanvi unkil gp thought I was a foreigner, & talked absolute filth, until they saw my Indian passport.

It is one’s duty as a fellow human living in a society or traveling in public transport such as an airplane, a train, or a bus to behave appropriately and not sabotage the journey of fellow passengers by being mannerless and unnecessarily loud. It’s a shame how the reputation of Indian men is being tainted because of some people.
