Vivek Agnihotri Laal Singh Chaddha Boycott

After a protracted absence, Mr. Perfectionist Aamir Khan and Evergreen Kareena Kapoor Khan reunited on the silver screen. The expectations are great and the buzz is positive, but social media is taking a different turn because the unfavourable hashtag “boycott Laal Singh Chaddha” is trending.

We can’t say that there is only one reason behind this boycott trend, as different people have their distinct opinions on “why should everyone boycott this film.”

But the major factor that drives this whole boycott campaign against the film is the main artists’ remarks about several controversial topics.

While male lead Aamir Khan has been criticised for his old remarks on “intolerance in India,” female lead Kareena Kapoor Khan has also played her role in igniting this trend. Her comments on nepotism in the film industry have brought her to the centre of all criticism.

Kareena Kapoor : Please don’t boycott Laal Singh Chaddh

Recently, while interacting with Siddharth Kannan, the actress stated that social media outrage can’t affect the film. She said,

“I think it’s only a section of people that are trolling. But genuinely, I think that the love the film is getting is very different. These are just a section of people who are probably on your social media, which is probably like 1%.”

Later, she countered her previous take on the boycott and requested people to watch her film.

“The fact is that they shouldn’t boycott this film, it’s such a beautiful film. I want people to see me and Aamir (Khan) on screen. It’s been three years, we’ve waited so long. So, please don’t boycott this film, because it’s actually like boycotting good cinema. People have worked so hard on it; we’ve had 250 people work on this film for two-and-a-half years.”

Due to this boycott trend, her comments on nepotism and Aamir Khan’s take on India have gone viral on the internet. As a result of this, even now some prominent personalities like director Vivek Agnihotri are reacting to it. In a series of tweets, he opened up about this controversy.

Vivek Agnihotri mentions the “Dons of Bollywood” while indirectly targeting the Laal Singh Chaddha

Vivek, whose most recent film, The Kashmir Files, received praise from both critics and audiences, has criticised Bollywood for being silent while his film The Kashmir Files was going through a similar situation at the time of its publication.

Let me tell you that the film The Kashmir Files, which was based on the genocide of Kashmiri Pandits in the Kashmir Valley during the 1990s, was targeted by a large section of society and the film industry for supposedly inciting hatred towards the Muslim population.

Filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri responded to the uproar around Aamir Khan’s most recent movie, Laal Singh Chaddha, which has been the target of social media demands for a boycott.

In the series of tweets, Vivek criticised Bollywood and the hypocrisy of those who remained silent when a group of people ganged up against “The Kashmir Files.” He tweeted,

“When Good Content Small films are sabotaged, boycotted by the Dons of Bollywood, when their shows are taken away by Multiplexes, when critics gang up against small films… nobody thinks of 250 poor people who worked hard on that film. #Bollywood”

In another tweet, he added,

“Why nobody from Bollywood raises voice when the Kings of Bollywood boycott, ban & destroy careers of so many outsider actors, directors, writers? The day common Indians get to know the ARROGANCE, FASCISM & HINDUPHOBIA of the Dons of Bollywood, they’ll drown them in hot coffee.”

Despite not targeting Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan directly, these tweets made it obvious that Vivek is taking a dig at none other than them. The tweets have gone viral and have gained lots of reactions. While many people ask him to name and shame people without indulging in these cryptic messages, many people also show their support to him.

What do you think about Vivek Agnihotri’s reaction to the boycott row?
