The most significant of these difficulties is the problem of exorbitant prices for both food and service offerings. Due to the intricate interactions between operational costs, delivery costs, and pricing rules, the cost of food and services has gone up. Regrettably, it has an impact on both customers and businesses.

Something similar recently happened customers noticed Rs. 3 additional charges on every order. Even though the Rs 3 tax might seem insignificant to some, the uproar has surrounded it. Several users have voiced their displeasure, considering it an unnecessary investment. However, the reality behind this additional charge seems to be different. Swiggy recently addressed the issue and here’s what the company has to say about it:

Swiggy on additional Rs. 3 charge

Several Swiggy users recently expressed their worries over what seemed to be anomalies in their food orders on X (formerly Twitter). Screenshots that were shared on social media on September 21 showed that there was a discrepancy of about Rs 3 between the total bill and the amount paid by clients.

Notably, these inconsistencies stemmed from the rounding off of their bill totals incorrectly. It caused differences between the total amount on the statement and the actual amount charged to clients. In response to these allegations, Swiggy swiftly corrected the problem and blamed it on a technical fault that resulted in a display mistake. The corporation made it clear that clients were not actually being charged more money as a result of this error.

Swiggy explained that the bug in question had erroneously displayed an extra discount, which was no longer applicable. A Swiggy spokesperson reassured customers, stating,

Some users may note incorrect discount amounts in their order history page. However, users have actually paid as per the prescribed discount amount during the checkout. Customers have paid the correct amount. This discrepancy in order history and actual paid value is due to a tech bug which our teams have fixed. Now back to ordering your favourite food!

Other people agreed with Swiggy’s explanation, confirming that the issue was in fact a display issue. They saw that the platform charge had been cut from Rs. 5 to Rs. 2, but that every order still showed an additional Rs. 3 charges, which they found to be confusing.

This billing mismatch occurs at a time when reports indicate that food orders have increased in price, mostly as a result of businesses like Swiggy charging a platform charge of Rs 2–5 every order. These fees are a component of the major meal delivery companies’ efforts to increase revenue. Interestingly, this trend goes beyond food delivery because e-commerce companies have begun charging convenience fees as well, which has an effect on how much online shopping eventually costs.
