Google CEO Sundar Pichai doesn’t need any introduction. His success story is an inspiration for many. From living a simple life in Chennai to making our country proud, he is a true example of rags to riches. We all know about his success but are not aware of the lady, who stood by his side and always supported him. Yes, we are talking about his wife, Anjali Pichai. Their love story was sweet and simple just like them. Sundar belonged to a middle class family. He lived in Chennai and led a simple life.
The first meeting
Sundar was pursuing Metallurgical Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kharagpur and there he met Anjali. Both of them were classmates. They became good friends and started enjoying each other’s company. Shah Rukh Khan in one of his films said, ‘Pyaar Dosti Hai’ and this was exactly the case in Suraj-Anjali’s love story. Both of them soon realised that they have feelings for each other. Thus, in the final year, he proposed her and she said yes.

Once Sundar himself said that it was very difficult for him communicate with Anjali as there were no smart phones back then. He revealed that he used to request a girl to tell Anjali in order to contact him and she would shout saying Sundar is here which he found embarrassing that time. Pichai once shared,
“I met Anjali at IIT-K and she was my classmate. Just to go get someone at the girl’s hostel, you had to walk in the front and request someone to call them. And they’d go in and loudly say – Anjali, Sundar is here. It wasn’t exactly a pleasant experience.”
Friends call him Chhupa Rustam
Sundar’s friends used to call him Chhupa Rustam as none of them had any clue about his affair with Anjali until he disclosed it in the final year. Earlier, in an interview with India Abroad, Sooraj’s fellow IIT student Joy Bhattacharya said, “The nickname was given by his friends because of Sundar’s ability to keep things close to his chest and spring surprises when nobody was expecting them.”

He added, “Even those who spent time with him regularly did not have any clue about his affair with Anjali until the time when he chose to disclose it in his final year at IIT in 1989.”
Long-distance relationship
After completing his graduation, Sundar went to USA to study further. As he was not financially independent, he didn’t talk to Anjali, who was in India, for almost six months. As they say, true love always finds its way. This distance just made their relationship stronger.
Finally the wedding bells
Anjali also left for USA. Meanwhile, Sundar got a job there. As he became financially stable, he decided to marry the love of his life. He took permission from Anjali’s parents and rest they say is history. After getting hitched, both of them started living in USA.
It seems like Anjali was Sundar’s good luck charm
After marrying Anjali Sundar received enticing offers from Microsoft, Yahoo and Twitter. However, Anjali advised him not to take these offers and continue with Google. He did what she said and today, he is the CEO of Google, the biggest company in the world.
Still maintain a low-profile life
Sundar Pichai had nothing when he had started dating Anjali and today he makes over 3.5 crore per day. They are happy and successful but still like to live a low-profile life. The couple, along with their two kids, Kavya and Kiran, live in a beautiful house designed by Robert Swatt in Los Altos Hills, a part of the Swatt Miers architectural group.
