As everybody is busy quarantining amid coronavirus outbreak, what’s better than listening to love stories? You might have heard many romantic tales and when it comes to celebs, our love for them can’t be underestimated. Today, we are going to tell you the love story of the former Indian Cricket team captain, Sourav Ganguly and his wife, Dona Roy. From meeting secretly to convincing parents, their story deserves a Bollywood film of its own.
Their meeting
They knew each other since childhood. Sourav used to spot her many times while going for football practice as she lived near his place. Sometimes, he also used to pass by her school just for her glimpse. Saurav confessed in a talk-show conducted by Anurag Basu,

“While playing football, while going somewhere. I could see her, may be way too much.”
Dona also felt the same for Sourav. Whenever he used to play badminton, the lady would wait for the shuttlecock to fall into her compound. Dona Ganguly, revealed in an interview with Rediff,
“Whenever the shuttlecock fell on our compound, I got my chance to return it.”
The couple couldn’t recall how love happened but they did remember their first date.
First date
The couple went on a date at a Chinese restaurant, Mandarin, in Kolkata. Dona was surprised by the quantity of food that Sourav ordered. In the end, the cricketer ended up eating everything.
This is how their love story started
Initially, Sourav’s parents were against their love but later, they agreed to it. However, Dona’s father had issues with the Ganguly family ages ago. Sourav didn’t lose hope and always attended Dona’s dance performances and she was also there for his matches.

Secret wedding
Sourav had a plan for the wedding. He thought that after the Indian cricket team’s England tour, he would take Dona to the registrar, get married. However, the plan couldn’t work as the office had a lot of people waiting. They took wedding vows at the cricketer’s friend’s place. The couple kept their marriage a secret. Dona’s parents were angry when they came to know about it but later accepted them.
Formal marriage
The duo managed to keep their wedding a secret for six months, and then it was that their parents started looking for suitable matches. A local newspaper got the secret about their marriage and published it. It was the moment when Saurav and Dona made the revelation.
Their formal wedding ceremony took place on 1st February 1997 in the presence of their family. Many cricketers were invited. They have a beautiful daughter, Sana Ganguly. Well, they are a big happy family.
It seems like some Bollywood filmmakers should make a film on this lovely story. We wish Sourav and Dona a happily ever after.
