In real life, Ravindra Kaushik was an undercover RAW agent deployed in Pakistan. He remained a spy until he was arrested and died in custody.
Who was Ravindra Kaushik and how did he end up being a spy?
- Ravindra Kaushik was born in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan in a Brahmin family on April 11, 1952.
- He loved doing theatre as a teenager and the RAW spotted him when he was at it.
- When he was 23 years old, RAW recruited Kaushik and he was sent to Pakistan on a special mission with the name, Nabi Ahmed Shakir.
- All his records in India were deleted.
- It is believed that during his training, Kaushik was made proficient in Urdu, and he was acquainted with Muslim religious texts and the terrain of Pakistan.
- When he was in Pakistan, he completed his LLB from Karachi University. He became a commissioned officer and was later promoted to the rank of a Major in the Pakistan army.
- It is believed that under the nickname ‘The Black Tiger’, he handed critical information to the Indian defense forces from 1978-1983. Ravindra was leading a different life in Pakistan.
The Indian spy Ravindra Kaushik’s love story with a Pakistani woman
Kaushik fell in love with a Pakistani woman Amanat during his stay in Pakistan. She was the daughter of a Pakistan Army officer. The two became friends, rather more than friends, and soon got married.
You must be curious about the fact that did Ravindra Kaushik wife Amanat know that he was a spy?
Well, according to sources, Amanat was unaware her husband was a spy even after their marriage. The two had a son named Areeb Ahmed Khan.
How did Ravindra get caught?
It is said that another agent sent by RAW accidentally blew his cover off during an interrogation in Pakistan. He was caught in 1983 and sentenced to death. His verdict was reduced to life imprisonment.
Until his demise in 2001, Kaushik remained in Pakistan custody.

While he was imprisoned in Pakistan it is reported that he wrote secret letters to his family in India. But they were not recognized by the Indian government.
Kaushik was extremely tortured for two years at an interrogation center located in Sialkot and he was jailed in Mianwali for another 16 years. According to reports, he was diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis and heart disease in 2001. But no one could help him and he was left to die. He then expired in the New Central Multan Jail.

According to a few sources, no one knows about the whereabouts of his wife Amanat and their child.
