PV Sindhu is the reason, why Indians stand proud, she’s the reason why women are inspired to take up sports, and she’s the reason why parents are starting to see a future in something other than academics for their children. India’s badminton sensation is the first badminton player from the country to win a silver medal in Olympics. Sindhu won the Badminton Gold at Commonwealth Games 2022 recently and we can’t be more proud.
Apart from being a silver medalist at the 2016 Rio Summer Olympics, here are a few other rare facts regarding our nation’s pride:

1. Popularly known as Sindhu, her full name is Pusarla Venkata Sindhu
She shares her birthday with many other great celebrities like Edie Falco and PT Barnum, the greatest showman on earth! PV Sindhu DOB is on July 5th, 1995.
2. She was born in Hyderabad
She was born to famous parents, in Hyderabad, PV Ramana, and P Vijaya, both former volleyball international players. Her father had won the Arjuna Award.
3. She had started playing badminton at the mere age of eight
She has been making us proud since then.
4. Sindhu got inspired by Pullela Gopichand
The reason why she took up badminton, in spite of her parents being involved in volleyball was her coach, Pullela Gopichand, whose victory in the All England Open Badminton Championship was a great inspiration to her.
5. Started to learn the basics of sport under the guidance of Mehboob Ali
Previously, she had been under the guidance of Mehboob Ali at the Indian Railway Institute of Signal Engineering and Telecommunications in Secunderabad. Later she joined the team of Gopichand.
6. She used to start her practice right at 4:15 am every day
And the fact that she reports on time proves her passion for the game.
7. During the early days she use to travel 56kms every day to reach her training center in Hyderabad

Her coach Gopichand made her leave her favorite cuisines to keep her fit.
9. Won several titles after joining Gopichand’s badminton academy
Her first major recognition was the 5th Servo All India Ranking Championship for the under 10 categories.
10. She was the first Indian to win back to back two medals at the World Championship Badminton in 2013 and 2014

Earlier in 2013, she won the Macau Grand Prix Gold Title, and also the Arjun Award, the highest form of respect and fame for a sportsperson.

Later in 2013, she was awarded the Padmashree by the Government of India, along with the FICCI Breakthrough Sportsmen of the Year in 2014.

17. Became the first Indian shuttler to win badminton world championship in 2019
P V Sindhu became the first Indian to win badminton World Championships gold by beating familiar rival Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in a lop-sided final Basel on August 25th, 2019.
