Places In India Where Indians Are Not Allowed

India has just celebrated 70th Independence Day and it has been 70 years since we claimed what was ours. And since then, we have evolved in many ways. But did you know that there are places in India where admission to Indians is prohibited, until about three years ago? If you think, as an Indian, you can roam over any places in India (except the highly secured and protected areas), you are absolutely wrong! Outrageous as it may sound, these places did existed in our nation. Most of these places are run by Indians and allow entry to only foreigners or Indians with a foreign passport.

Here are five such places in India where Indians were forbidden from entering until recently:

1. Uno-In Hotel – Bangalore

The Uno-In Hotel was started in 2012 in the Electronic City of India, Bangalore. The hotel was created to carter the needs of the growing corporate Japanese population in the city. As the hotel was exclusively for the Japanese, Indians were banned from entering the hotel. Situated on Langford Cross Road in Shanthinagar, Hotel Uno-In, which also houses a Japanese rooftop restaurant called Teppen, has a policy of not allowing access to Indians, or for that matter, any other non-Japanese nationals.

However, after the complaints by the locals, the hotel was soon shut down by the Greater Bangalore City Corporation in the year 2014 on charges of racial discrimination.

2. “Foreigners Only” beaches – Goa

You can roam around and enjoy the beauty of Arabian Sea in most of the beaches in Goa. But there are some private beaches where the owners only allow the foreigners. In support of such discrimination they give logic that Indians make lusty gazes and throw lewd comments to the bikini clad foreigners.

There are a number of beach shacks and restaurant owners in Goa who openly prefer foreign tourists over Indian people.

3. Unknown Lodge – Chennai

Given the pseudonym of Highlands, this lodge in Chennai allows only people who hold foreign passports. The lodge is set in a former Nawab’s residence and is crumbling with time, but that does not stop them from only catering to non-Indians. The reason for such discriminatory behavior remains unknown.

According to Deccan Herald the hotel has enforced a strong “NO INDIAN” policy which means you can only stay in hotel if you are in a possession of a foreign passport otherwise you’re not welcome.

4. “Foreigners Only” Beaches – Puducherry

Pondicherry is another popular tourist place for the foreigners. It has some pristine and wonderful beaches. However, there are some of the beaches where Indians are not allowed and only reserved for the foreigners.

Similar to Goa, many restaurants and shacks only allow the foreigners and discourage the Indians to enter.

5. Free Kasol Cafe – Kasol

Kasol has always been a place where travelers could unwind in its laid-back ambience, but just maybe- not all the people there believe in the same idea. Contrary to its name, this cafe in Kasol discriminates against people who are Indian residents.

This cafe in Kasol, Himachal Pradesh came into limelight in 2015 when the owner of the place refused to serve an Indian woman while welcoming only the Israelis.
