The Mumbai police have stressed on the risk of the Pink WhatsApp scam as it issued a warning against it. As per the Mumbai police, the users should be more than just careful as this latest scam lures in the user via a message which deceptively guarantees a new logo color update and introduces updated features.

This scam is basically a fraud that attempts to prey on WhatsApp users. The users are basically sent a message with a phishing link. If you click on that link it will immediately start downloading malicious content mostly applications that be disastrous for your mobile phone.

Via this scam, the fraudsters basically gain unauthorized access to your mobile phone’s security. As per claims, the fraudsters can gain access to your contact numbers and saved pictures. Furthermore, by gaining access they can breach your privacy and make unauthorized use of it.

Clicking on the link may also lead to the misuse of your login credentials. It is stated that monetary losses can occur as well due to illegal transactions.

How to not become prey to this scam? A cyber security expert shared some useful tips

Odisha-based cyber security expert Prashant Sahu said as we quote,

“These scams have the potential to compromise your security, including reading your OTPs and gaining complete control over your mobile device. Stay vigilant and be cautious of such scams.”

The first and foremost tip given by him is to uninstall the software if you have already installed it. Secondly, make sure that you log out of your WhatsApp from all the devices (laptops and other mobile phones) that it was logged in to. Third is for severe cases meaning if the issue still persists then you should back up your essential data and format your mobile phone.

Make sure you ignore such shared texts as it contains illegitimate links. Do not click on those links or forward them to others.
