Who is Swaroop Sampat?

Swaroop Sampat, born on November 3, 1958, is an Indian actress and was crowned Miss India in 1979. She is also known to have represented India in the Miss Universe pageant. The actor is best known for her roles in the movies Naram Garam and Nakhuda. She has also acted in a television series called Yeh Jo Zindagi Hai. Swaroop also has a Ph.D. degree from the University of Worcester and did her thesis based on how drama enhances life skills in children who are struggling with learning disabilities.

How Paresh Rawal and Swaroop Sampat met each other

Both Paresh and Swaroop were into dramas and plays. Although they used to go to different colleges, destiny seems to have brought them together. They first met each other at an inter-college play event and Swaroop was swept off her feet by the power-packed delivery by Paresh on stage. Moreover, she was the first one to go out to meet and congratulate Paresh backstage.

In an interview, Swaroop reminisced,

It was undoubtedly love at first sight for Paresh. He was charmed by Swaroop the minute she stepped into the auditorium and she was dressed in a pink saree. In those few minutes what Paresh felt was so intense that he declared that if he were to marry, then he would marry her and only her.

In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, Paresh talked about the moment he first saw her. Apparently, his friends had asked him not to go after her since she was the daughter of Paresh’s then-boss.

Paresh told,

The duo started meeting each other after that, and their friendship soon changed into love. The couple dated each other for a long span of twelve years. One notable incident won Swaroop’s heart more than ever. During that time, her father wanted her to enlist in the Miss India pageant but it was something she did not particularly think about.

But she was taken aback by Paresh’s response when she relayed the same to him. He said that he would personally take her to the pageant venue, no matter what circumstances present themselves. This undying support that she received was overwhelming and Swaroop enlisted for the beauty pageant and later even won the title of Miss India in 1979.

How Paresh proposed to his ladylove

After dating for 12 years came the serious question of marriage. Paresh took the first step and proposed to her in a very straightforward fashion.

They finally married each other in the year 1987. The marriage event was successfully kept under wraps and near to nobody except their own families were invited. Unlike other marriages, their wedding vows were exchanged under the shade of big old trees with no fire-lit mandap set up.

The actress recalled their wedding day memory and said,

Now, the couple is parents to two sons named Anirudh and Aditya, who have chosen their professions in creative fields. They continue to be each other’s support system even after 40 years of marriage riding all the ups and downs in life together.
