One of the most common offenses that most two-wheeler riders in India commit is riding without wearing a crash helmet. For many years now, there have been rules that mandate helmets for two-wheeler riders. The government has also recently increased fines for non-compliance with the helmet rule.
Despite all these safety measures, people still refuse to follow the helmet rule. There have been incidents where not only common people but even the police have been spotted without helmets on a two-wheeler. There have been several incidents when a few police officials have been caught and penalized with an e-challan for violating traffic rules but it still prevails.

This is not the first time that the Mumbai police have been caught without a helmet. Previously, after the video of a cop riding a motorcycle without a helmet went viral on internet, Mumbai Police issued a circular to all police stations that no police, whether dressed in uniform or not should not ride a two-wheeler without a helmet.

It is sad that despite the rules that clearly state that two-wheeler riders are supposed to wear a helmet even the police sometimes seem to give them a deaf ear instead of promoting helmet use.
