Mumbai Police reply without helmet

One of the most common offenses that most two-wheeler riders in India commit is riding without wearing a crash helmet. For many years now, there have been rules that mandate helmets for two-wheeler riders. The government has also recently increased fines for non-compliance with the helmet rule.

Despite all these safety measures, people still refuse to follow the helmet rule. There have been incidents where not only common people but even the police have been spotted without helmets on a two-wheeler. There have been several incidents when a few police officials have been caught and penalized with an e-challan for violating traffic rules but it still prevails.

Recently, a man shared a picture of two policewomen riding a scooty without helmets in Mumbai

The man took a picture of two policewomen riding a scooty without helmets. Posting the picture on Twitter, he tweeted,

“What if we travel like this?? Isn’t this a traffic rule violation?”

This is not the first time that the Mumbai police have been caught without a helmet. Previously, after the video of a cop riding a motorcycle without a helmet went viral on internet, Mumbai Police issued a circular to all police stations that no police, whether dressed in uniform or not should not ride a two-wheeler without a helmet.

Amitesh Kumar, joint police commissioner (traffic) said,

Policemen and policewomen who ride motorcycles have been ordered to wear helmets at all times and follow other traffic rules

After the tweet by Rahul Barman, where two policewomen have been spotted without helmets, Mumbai Traffic police responded

Mumbai traffic police first asked the man to specify the location where they have been spotted so that they can take necessary action. The tweet said,

Please provide the exact location for necessary action

After the man provided the exact location of the incident, the Mumbai Police replied,

“We have shared this with a senior official of the Matunga traffic division for necessary stern actions.”

One Twitter user even attacked the man who brought this matter to light by saying that targeting the policewomen was a personal attack, he wrote,

You only able to capture police woman’s, What about the next guy without helmet ?. This is personal attack on police woman because they has power and the person tweeted has some bad moral with police

To this the man replied,

How can this be a personal attack I don’t even know them bro

It is sad that despite the rules that clearly state that two-wheeler riders are supposed to wear a helmet even the police sometimes seem to give them a deaf ear instead of promoting helmet use.
