Once these strange events occurred and were reported by witnesses on social media, they quickly crossed geographical boundaries, going viral and drawing interest from all around the country. Recently, the Delhi Metro made headlines, but this time for a noticeably different reason. A video went viral in which a man was seen smoking a beedi inside one of Delhi Metro’s compartments. Needless to say, the incident has brought the Delhi Metro into the spotlight once more.

On X (formerly known as Twitter), a user by the name of Manish Pandey recently posted a video documenting a worrying occurrence that happened within the Delhi Metro. The caption accompanying the video reads,
“Amidst open kissing in Delhi Metro, now swag of beedi.”
In the video, an old man lights a beedi with a matchstick before throwing away the lit matchstick. Soon after, the passenger sitting next to the man decides to get up and go. While the man continues to smoke, no immediate intervention occurs. Yet at the conclusion of the video, a different rider softly taps the man’s knee and motions toward the beedi. It seems like he was signaling to him that smoking is not permitted within the Delhi Metro.

DRMC reacted to the Beedi man in Metro
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), in response to the video, has issued a formal statement reiterating its proactive approach. They highlighted the use of specialized teams to perform informal inspections in order to spot and rectify any instances of unacceptable behavior.

According to Live Hindustan, the DMRC said,
“We conduct random checking through flying squads to detect any such objectionable behaviour. We appeal to the public to instantly bring up such instances to our notice so that immediate action can be taken”
