Pizza delivery accident

Everyone loves a pizza. It is safe to say that this particular fast food is among those with the highest number of connoisseurs. It is the first choice for everyone from school kids to office-goers.

One of the major reasons behind the high sales of pizza is the promise of 30-minute delivery. Indeed, many pizza companies marketed themselves to pizza lovers assuring a guaranteed 30-minute delivery. All pizza companies follow this policy, according to which if the pizza is not delivered in 30 minutes, it must be delivered for free.

While people cherish the idea of free delivery, they hardly ever realise that failing to deliver pizza on time is not the loss of the company but the pizza delivery boy.

The company, being a company, coerces the delivery boy to meet the 30-minute guarantee with the fear that a loss will be deducted from their salaries.

Now, since most pizza delivery boys come from economically weaker sections of the society, they push themselves to fulfill the requirement. They, therefore, put their lives on the line to deliver pizza on time – zipping down the busy roads at breakneck speeds on their bikes.

But there are people with a conscience in this otherwise dog-eat-dog world of ours. One such individual is a man called Rajat Kumar Roy. An executive chef with Sterling Holidays, Roy expressed his view on this pizza delivery system in a post on Facebook.

But what did Roy write? He narrated an incident when a pizza delivery boy, in the rush to meet the deadline, almost came under his car. That moment triggered in Roy a strong aversion towards the pizza companies whose policies place the lives of their delivery boys at risk.

Next time I see an advertisement claiming to deliver pizza in 30 minutes or give it for free, I am walking past it. And next time your order gets delayed, we hope you don’t claim a refund, without at least inquiring.
