Bengaluru man finds metal piece in shawarma

The rise in popularity of online meal ordering in recent years has drastically changed the Indian food industry’s environment. Food delivery services have become increasingly important as a result of the quick development of digital technology. The changing needs of consumers who are looking for more convenience are the biggest driving force behind these services. Due to the rapid advancement of digitization, an increasing number of Indians can use online food delivery services. This phenomenon helps these businesses reach a wider audience and attract more customers by allowing them to reach new demographics.

However, there are certain difficulties that come along with this increased reach. Even while meal delivery services have many benefits, they face a number of difficulties. The problem of food safety and cleanliness is the most important of these difficulties. There is a greater chance of food contamination and order confusion due to the increasing number of food delivery requests. However, the recent incident will scare you to the core. On top of that, Swiggy’s hypocrisy will boggle your mind and make you angry.

A Bengaluru resident after he discovered a metal fragment in the Shawarma he ordered from Swiggy

The user, who goes by the Reddit pseudonym “sterlingcrises,” claimed to have placed an order for chicken shawarma from Absolute Shawarma in Nagawara, Bengaluru. As he was eating, he bit into something crispy, which he discovered was a metal fragment in the dish.

The consumer contacted Swiggy’s customer service staff right away and requested a full refund. Additionally, he agreed to deliver new shawarma without having to place another Swiggy purchase. He also asked what would happen to the eatery that was the subject of the inquiry.

Understandably enraged, the client emphasized the seriousness of the incident by stating that he could have “choked and died.” He questioned Swiggy’s approach, stating, “Is this how you treat your customers?”

Apart from the direct worry about food safety, the consumer conveyed his dissatisfaction not just with Swiggy’s perceived indifference to his complaint but also with quality control problems.

Later on, the unhappy customer described the incident in detail and included screenshots to support his complaints about Swiggy’s handling of the circumstances in a Reddit post. Needless to say, his post soon went viral and received various reactions that echoed his sentiments.

In the comments section of his Reddit post, the customer delved into his broader expectations from Swiggy. He also emphasized the need for proactive measures to prevent such incidents. He wondered if apps such as Swiggy are deliberately working to put eateries with poor standards on a blacklist.

This incident comes after another one in which a Swiggy client found a live snail in a salad that she had purchased from a well-known Bengaluru restaurant chain.
