Lata Mangeshkar is one Indian female singer who is helmed as “legendary”. She was born on 28 September 1929 and hails from Indore. What is worth noting is that she was born into a musical family. Her father, Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar started teaching her music at an early age. She has been entertaining us with her melodious voice since she was 13 years old. There was a time when she used to rule the Indian music industry, no wonder she was referred to as the “nightingale of India”. In a career spanning nearly eight decades, she has over 20,000 songs to her credit. Furthermore, it is safe to say that all Lata Mangeshkar songs are etched in the hearts of every music lover.

During her glorious era, she recorded songs in more than 36 regional Indian and foreign languages, but mostly Marathi and Hindi. This versatile singer has sung for actresses from Madhubala to Priyanka Chopra. Back in 1989, she was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Prize.

Fast-forwarding to 2001, she also received the Bharat Ratna, India’s highest civilian award, in recognition of her services to the nation.
