1. Kapil Sharma was born on April 2nd, 1981, in Amritsar, Punjab.

His full name was Kapil Punj and later he changed into Kapil Sharma.

2. His father Jeetendra Kumar Punj was a head constable in Punjab Police.

His mother Janak Rani is a homemaker. In the year 1997, his father was diagnosed with Cancer and passed in the year 2004 at AIMS in Delhi. It was too early for Kapil and he had to take all the responsibility.

3. He studied at Shri Ram Ashram Senior Secondary School.

Kapil completed his college from Hindu College in Amritsar. The actor-comedian holds a degree in commercial arts and computer science, though he once admitted that he had absolutely no interest in any of the subjects.

4. Since he was good in theaters many colleges used to sponsor his education.

They sponsored him so that he can represent them in college youth festivals. When it was asked him which course would he take up he would ask them- which is the expensive one? and when they said commercial arts, he took that, he also mentions he doesn’t even know what it is all about.

5. Later he also did his degree in computer science.

He loved only computer classes as only that classroom had AC. Eventually, he learned neither commercial arts nor computer science.

6. Kapil Sharma has a brother named Ashok Kumar Sharma.

He is a Police constable and a sister named Pooja Pawan Devgan who is married now.

7. When he was in college, he used to teach drama and theater to children in Delhi just to earn some extra bucks.

8. Kapil had previously worked in the Punjabi show Hasde Hasande Ravo in 2006 on MH One channel.

9. Kapil Sharma did not clear the first round of “The Great Indian Laughter Challenge” in 2007.

He came back via wild card entry and won the show and got a cash prize of Rs. 10 Lakhs.

10. Kapil spent all his prize money from winning the laughter challenge on his sister’s marriage.

He gave up all the 10 lakh he got as prize money so that he could provide a lavish wedding to his beloved sister.

11. His first show as a host in his career was Chhote Miyan in 2008.

He has also hosted the dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa Season 6. Kapil was the co-host along with Karan Johar in the 60th Filmfare Awards in 2015.

12. The comedian came to Mumbai to pursue a career in music.

He even participated in the show, “Star Ya Rockstar” in 2011, where he was praised by Lata Mangeshkar. But that didn’t work out well.

14. Kapil before getting fame has done some odd jobs as well.

15. In the year 2013, Kapil launched his own show Comedy Nights with Kapil.

Comedy Nights with Kapil and it’s characters are loosely based on the British show, The Kumars at No. 42.

16. Kapil made his Bollywood debut as the male lead for the movie Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon in 2015.

The movie was directed by Abbas Mustan, opposite to 4 female actresses and released in 2015. Though the movie had mixed reviews but did record-breaking business as for the debut.

17. After the end of Comedy Nights with Kapil, he signed a show with sony TV, called The Kapil Sharma Show.

Its last episode was aired on 24 January 2016. After that, he started working on Sony Entertainment Television for The Kapil Sharma Show under his K9 Productions. His show The Kapil Sharma Show was aired with a new season on 29 December 2018, produced by Salman Khan.

18. Kapil married Ginni Chatrath in Jalandhar on 12 December 2018.

Recently they were blessed with a baby daughter in December 2019, Anayra Sharma.

19. Kapil Sharma won the CNN-IBN Indian of the Year 2013 award for his contribution to the entertainment industry.

He was also ranked 18th on the 2017 Forbes India Celebrity 100 list.

20. There is a wax statue of him at the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum.

21. Kapil was also the presenter for the fourth season of Celebrity Cricket League, 2014.

He appeared as a guest on the opening episode of the eighth season of the Indian television game show Kaun Banega Crorepati. He appeared as a celebrity guest on The Anupam Kher Show. He also appeared as a guest in Koffee With Karan in 2017.

22. Kapil was invited by President Pranab Mukherjee as guest of honor for his contribution towards Swachh Bharat Campaign.

He was invited to the Rashtrapati Bhavan in September 2015 by then President Pranab Mukherjee to acknowledge his contribution to the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
