10 Times Sourav Ganguly Proved He Is The Fearless King Of Indian Cricket

We all without any doubt admire the transparent and witty nature that Sourav Ganguly has. He will go to any extent to get what he wants and celebrate like a champion once he gets it. We all love how he just means exactly what he says through his savage replies.

Well, here we have collected some of his most savage moments!

1. Once, he intentionally reached late for toss during Australia’s tour of India in 2001, making Steve Waugh wait on the field. He later told people why.

Ganguly a few days ago confessed that he did it intentionally, the reason being Australian coach named John Buchanan had aggressively asked Javagal Srinath why he was coming out of the field at the time of one of the matches. Srinath informed about this incident to Ganguly and dada made sure the revenge was taken.

2. Ganguly never left his savageness aside, even when he left his cricketing career aside and went for commentary.

For example, once Nasser Hussain tried to instigate him with a joke on the Indian football team and got a burn in return. This is how everything went:

Nasser: When can I witness India in the FIFA World Cup?

Ganguly: If India had played football for almost 50 years, then we would have made it to finals at least once.

3. Mischief and Dada almost complement each other, the credit goes to his behaviour on and off the field. Throwback, to when he made fun of Ricky Ponting during the toss by calling ‘head-tail, and literally got away with it.

The situation was dictated by Michael Clarke, who informed that Dada murmured ‘head-tail’ during the toss and by the time Ricky Ponting could acknowledge it, he picked up the coin, said India will bat, and went back. You won’t believe India did bat first.

4. While speaking about ‘Ganguly’ and ‘revenge’ we cannot forget this one incident about him swinging his shirt from the Lord’s balcony.

It was a worth watching moment. Afterwards, Dada told us that he did it because Andrew Flintoff took off his shirt at Wankhede before and it was just not acceptable to the Indian captain that someone would disregard the country at its ‘Mecca of cricket’.

5. But people who religiously followed him knew that being carefree was also a necessary part of his personality.

There were days when he used to just chill and not stress about anything.

6. There was this one incident when Ravi Shastri asked him, “Is there a Ganguly pavilion or Ganguly stand in Eden Gardens?”

And his epic reply to this was: The ground belongs to Ganguly.

7. His anger was visible in almost each of his actions. Asking him about Greg Chappell dispute, Rajdeep Sardesai, a journalist, once asked him,

“Does Greg Chappell owe an apology to Indian cricket? To Sachin Tendulkar, to Sourav Ganguly, to Dravid?”.

To which his witty and legendary reply was

“He can call up Tendulkar or Dravid. But he dare not dial my number. If he is hearing this on TV, he dare not call Sourav Ganguly.”

8. Ganguly’s always regretted how his ‘team of gentlemen’ never sledged. Referring to players such as Laxman, Sachin and Dravid, he said:

“If you tell Rahul Dravid to do that, he’ll be like ‘no no no that is not the right way to play. If you tell Laxman, he will be like ‘ no no I am concentrating on my batting’. And if you tell Sachin, he will stand on mid-on and ask the mid-wicket fielder to sledge Steve Waugh.”

9. But even in all of this, he still made sure he was there for his teammates and that he motivated them to bring the best out of them. The biggest example of this case is Virender Sehwag.

Ganguly planned to make him open for India, which is exactly how the country witnessed one of its most legendary batsmen.

10. There were times where he appreciated his teammates a lot.

As Sachin Tendulkar recalls, there was this time when he got hit by a Shoaib Akhtar delivery on the ribs and Ganguly kept telling him, “Tu champion hai re”. Sachin, who was in scorch pain, had to just tell him to stop “Shhh.. Just let me recover”.
